The cover of "The New Soldier" is a picture of long-haired men mimicking the famous Iowa Jima photograph of six marines raising the American flag over the island. Iwo Jima is where nearly 7000 marines died in World War II. Six marines were forever immortalized in the photograph as they raised the flag, and only three of the six ever got to go home again. The merry band pictured on Kerry’s book cover further demean the marines at Iowa Jima and our country by raising an upside down flag.

I think it was 5 Marines and a Navy Corpsman (John Bradley).
