...New Jersey Governor James McGreevey isn't wavering from his decision to stay on the job until November 15, despite bipartisan calls for him to step down immediately so that an election for his replacement can be held this year. On the current course, Senate President and fellow Democrat Richard Codey will succeed him as acting Governor, and New Jersey will avoid a special election in which voters might demonstrate their displeasure with the way they have been treated.
Now comes a story in The Hudson Reporter that Mr. Codey is likely to name Mr. McGreevey as head of the state's new Stem Cell Institute. Mr. McGreevey established the research center in May with $6.5 million in state money. The state's partners are Rutgers University and the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, which are each ponying up $1 million. Private-sector participation is being sought. Spokesmen for Messrs. McGreevey and Codey do not rule out that Mr. McGreevey may get the position, though they say they are aware of no discussions on the subject between the two men.
So, let's see if we get this straight. If Mr. McGreevey holds onto the job in which he's worse than a lame duck, Mr. Codey gets to be governor and Mr. McGreevey may well end up with a nice state-sponsored sinecure. This isn't even honest graft.

I moved to the Philly area about 15 years ago. Even back then, I made the decision to live in Pennsylvania instead of NJ based mainly on the corruption levels of each state government. I have not been proved wrong in my decision...
Coleus posted a simliar story last week....
I want a real primary to choose our candidate.
I don't want the corrupt republicans in office now to do the choosing for me.
McGreevey is hanging on past the date specified in law for there to be a special election. But then, Torricelli hung on the the Democratic nomination for Senate past the date specified in law for there to be a replacement Democratic candidate, too - so what is the big problem?Sue the government to run a special election for Governor of NJ on the grounds that the deadline doesn't matter any more in this case than it did in the other.
"Laws? We don't need no stinkin' laws!"
Let Codey go ahead an appoint McGreevey to this cushy job. It's further evidence to New Jerseyites that the Democrat Party in their state is corrupt.
I understand that. But Corzine is gonna buy the governorship next year just like he bought the Senate seat a few years ago.At least let the rest of us Republicans enjoy the irony of the situation!
The convention across the river in NYC ought to have fun with this one!
Until the US justice department starts prosecuting corrupt politicians and putting them in jail, and for a long time, it's only going to get worse.
Did Mary-Jo White ever charge anyone other than a bunch of hassidic jews for bribing politicians? She never charged the politician, only the ones who bribed her.
And Trafficant was prosecuted only for being too middle class, and making his staff actually work.(the guy who ratted him was pissed Trafficant made him bale hay instead of sit at a desk and drink latte's)
I would agree at the state government level.
Then there's Philadelphia .......
I'm not so thrilled with the state level either. After all, the state police, without interference from the legislature, are continuing to use the NICS system to complie and maintain and illegal gun registry, despite having been directed by the feds to cease and desist (since its a violation of federal law to use the federally run NICS system in this way).
