The DD-214 shows him as a Lt(JG) while other documents say he was promoted to Lt (O-3) on 1 Jan 70. One document says he left active duty on 3 Jan 70, but the DD-214 shows the date of release as 01 March 70. Now he had 31 days of leave coming, again according to the DD-214, but that would only get him to early February if he took it as "terminal leave", which was the practice in those days when you couldn't get paid for unused leave.
If this gets any traction, it way more than Hugh and series. If you stay in shower for the fun and games, you'll come out looking like Janet Reno.
I'm kind of curious why his DD-215 is dated March, 2001. It took 30 years to correct his records? Perhaps thoughts of a presidential bid?
If the Navy was like the Army in the mid to late '70s, if you did not stay on active duty for one year in your new rank, the promotion was not made permanent.
If he leave in 5-day increments so he wouldn't have to use it up on weekends, that would cover that time framce. Then the question would be did he actually sign in and out each week. I doubt it and his records on that should be demanded.
