Singer Laura Branigan passed away in her sleep on the evening of Thursday, August 26, 2004. Her death was apparently caused by a brain aneurysm.
Laura was only 47 years old, having been born on July 3, 1957 in Brewster, New York.
Laura had 13 charted hits in the Billboard Top 100 spanning the years 1982 to 1990, including five consecutive Top 20 smashes during the mid-1980s.
Those hits were as follows:
Gloria - #2 in July 1982
Solitaire - #7 in March 1983
How Am I Supposed To Live With You - #12 in July 1983 (#1 for three weeks on the Adult Contemporary charts)
Self Control - #4 in April 1984
The Lucky One - #20 in August 1984
Gloria was also backing vocalist with recording artist Leonard Cohen. As well, she guest-starred on the TV show CHiPs and appeared in the 1984 movie Mugsy's Girl.
Laura recently was cast as Janis Joplin in some Broadway play, earning rave reviews. Ironically, Janis Joplin herself died prematurely, but in Janis' case, it was self-inflicted by booze and heroin.
That's odd. There's nothing on the newswires.
Was that the same Syreeta that at one time was married to Stevie Wonder?
It's on her official website.
There's now a link on the Drudge site about this.
Condolences to you. I was lucky enough with God's help to survive an aortic Dissection 4 years ago at age 43, and am carrying a well taken care of aneurysm in my descending aorta because of it.
Yes, Syreeta was married to Stevie Wonder in the early 1970s.
i liked, How Am I Supposed to Live Without You? she sang it before Michael Bolton did (although i believe he may have written it...) in any case, i like her rendition better... more powerful... i can't believe she was only 47... she seemed to have a mature voice even 20 or so years ago...
Syreeta Wright had breast cancer.
I'd never heard of her, but if she could blow Celine away, she must have really been something.
...or as the Scots would say..."Hey MacLeod, get offa my ewe!"
Sorry, I LOVED LB's music. Wish I coulda met her.....
Wow. Rest in peace, Laura.
This is sad. I enjoyed her music. Was her version of Gloria a remake of Patti Smith's?

Keith Richards hasn't died yet.
< Her rendition of Power of Love, blows Celine Dion's away >
Some are old, some are druggies, some are genetically-defective, some are scumbags. Life goes on; get over it, folks...
I'm not familiar with Smith's song but you can click on the link below, scroll down a bit and hear some of Laura singing Gloria.

And here is president elect John F Kerry
Mere mortals we are. Our lives and deaths have an element of surprize and mystery. Sad to hear the news.
Nooo!
I was really young when "Gloria" came out, and I remember my mother used to play that record over and over. What a voice! What a loss.
