I saw a guy catch a pelican with a spinner, below Jackson Lake Dam, WY, this summer. He was furious cuz his wife left the video camera in the cabin, fearing no one would believe him. So if you run into a guy that claims that story, believe him!

I used to fish the Vero Beach-Indian River bridge in Florida when I was a poor student. I always had my rod and a jig attatched to my bicycle because one had to fish only during ebb at high tide and you never knew when you'd have ten minutes to toss in a line. I caught a pelican once. You normally don't catch them, you foul them in the line until they tangle or end up at the hook. That bill snaps pretty good. They do bite. You cover their eyes and untangle them/cut the hook barb off and let em go. No harm.

One night late after work I caught an ebb tide with no jig and dead winds. I took a big green palm leaf about a foot long and tied the hook off under it and pitched it, then walking the bridge jigging it. I hooked a monster snook on that palm leaf. I had to use a drop-grapple to lift it from the water. Snook have extremely soft mouth's. Almost like no bone, just cartilage. I had to play the thing forever to tire it out. Bridge fishing is quite the dilema when you hook something big.
