Kerry citation a 'total mystery' to ex-Navy chief
August 28, 2004
BY THOMAS LIPSCOMB
Former Navy Secretary John Lehman has no idea where a Silver Star citation displayed on Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry's campaign Web site came from, he said Friday. The citation appears over Lehman's signature.
"It is a total mystery to me. I never saw it. I never signed it. I never approved it. And the additional language it contains was not written by me," he said.
The additional language varied from the two previous citations, signed first by Adm. Elmo Zumwalt and then Adm. John Hyland, which themselves differ. The new material added in the Lehman citation reads in part: "By his brave actions, bold initiative, and unwavering devotion to duty, Lieutenant (jg) Kerry reflected great credit upon himself...."
Asked how the citation could have been executed over his signature without his knowledge, Lehman said: "I have no idea. I can only imagine they were signed by an autopen." The autopen is a device often used in the routine execution of executive documents in government.
Kerry senior adviser Michael Meehan could not be reached for comment on Kerry's records.

Maybe. From a diabolical viewpoint this would be perfect for Hiliary: 'They robbed us in 2000, they smeared us in 2004, but we (I) will win the White House in 2008'!
Kerry also had Kennedy clout for a good 20 years before even stepping foot in DC.
I have no doubt that the Swifties know more than they are divulging. O'Neill is a skilled lawyer. He mentioned that they didn't put anything in the book that didn't have two sources. He said there were other allegations, which couldn't be put in the book. I am sure that O'Neill's and the rest of the SBVFT's Navy connections are getting them info sub rosa. They can't release it without compromising their sources. Hence the need to pressure Kerry to authorise release of his records. Eventually, depending on how it goes, they could be released ala the Pentagon papers. It is just too big a story. Maybe it will be part of an October surprise.
Bump! Good one!
The language is boilerplate and I have a lot of experience in this matter. The specific combat details are not, but the rest of it is. The boiler-plate may have changed from epoch to epoch.
Kerrys senior campaign advisor is on with Tony Snow now saying that every one of kerrys military records is on their website LOL.
"Well glory be ... somebody is actually going to look at the source! Good luck correcting the folks here who labor under false impressions."
Thanks. I read through the silver star citations and compared them, one sentence at a time. The only difference that I saw was where the original had his full name and rank in one spot, and the replacement just said "he".
Other than that, they contain the exact same wording. No embellishments, no additions. Nothing to see here. If anybody else wants to take a shot at it, I'll repost the urls you supplied:

Yeah, that one yesterday in the Sun-Times was the most damnning thing I have read about Kerry in the MSM yet. And it focsed exclusively on the documents on his OWN website. It seems a cursory investigation rasises all kinds of questions about Kerry's awards. I dunno what Kerry did to piss off the Sun-Times, but I agree with whoever suggested that they smell blood in the water.
I agree with you. According to O'Neill, the SS was not vetted thru the normal channels. I also find it odd that the Zumwalt SS citation is on letterhead paper. Normally, it is included on the award nomination form only.
Wasn't there a thread on FR where it was proved that it had been signed by autopen? That the signature was 100% identical to a signature on another document signed by him? I seem to remember scans...
I must not have bookmarked it. Maybe another FReeper remembers it and has it bookmarked.
Great, more of Kerry's hypocrisy. The man ahs a record.
Hoo boy - I guess we're about to find out everything we never wanted to know about Lehman's personal life, with a few slimy fabrications thrown in for good measure.
We think alike..obviously, it's to the Swiftie's advantage to get Kerry to release it..because that negates the phoney issue of "playing politics"..also, cotinuing with the theme of Lehman's comments..you wonder just how much of the records have been doctored/altered...Kerry may be loathe to release the records, not because he's afraid of whta they say ( which he has to be, to some extent) but more perhaps because he doesn't know "which" version they have..
"John Fraud Kerry."
Absolutely perfect, my friend. That's exactly what he is.
Thanks that's what I thought. This guy is a piece of work isn't he? LOL
I would assume that the Navy has the original 214 on file? Corrects are just that Corrections. Has he released his original 214 or has anyone asked to see it.
If all you wanted is a replacement I believe the Navy would send a copy of the original stamped replacement or copy. Or am I wrong?
Kerry makes Al Gore look like George Washington in the cherry tree story.
The last sentence on the SS citations is different, i.e., the Hyland citation and the Lehman citation.
The fact that fellow Democrats aren't pushing him to sign a 180 and release everything tells me all I need to know - they are aware of the lies and don't won't it pursued.
Bump
