Jeb Bush: Swiftvet Ads Not a 'Smear'
Newsmax ^ | Aug. 27, 2004 | Carl Limbacher

Florida Gov. Jeb Bush rejected on Friday arguments from Democrats that a series political ads by the group Swiftboat Veterans for Truth constituted an unfair attack on Sen. John Kerry's Vietnam War record.

"I don't think [their allegations] are a smear," Gov. Bush told radio host Sean Hannity.

Story Continues Below

"In fact, what ought to happen is, there ought to be fact checks. Every ad that goes out ought to be looked at by the press in an objective way and people can make their own determination whether they're accurate or not." The comments by the Florida governor marked the first time since the Swiftvet ads turned the 2004 presidential campaign on its head that a member of the Bush family has publicly defended the group.

President Bush, on the other hand, says he'll back legal action to stop the Swiftvet ads, along with others sponsored by groups critical of the White House like MoveOn.org.

Gov. Bush, however, rejected comparisons between the Swiftvets and ads by Democratic groups who have attacked his brother.

"That's not what I'm talking about," he told Hannity. "I'm talking about calling people Nazis - the vitriolic hatred that seems to exist - it's over the top."

"There needs to be a restoration of civility in political discourse," he added.

Good move. Let W stay above the fray and let other GOP talking heads keep raising the issues that appear in the SBVT ads.

Keep pushing F'n closer and closer to a breakdown.

Jeb has stated what his brother cannot state
thanks to our biased and dishonest media.

Rice-Bush 2008! That's the real ticket. And real smear isn't the charge of the Swift Vets, it was Kerry's charges in the 70s against them. Payback is a female dog in heat.

Jeb has it right.

Check out all the 527s.

Let the chips fall where they may.

Of course Kerry could clear it all up by signing the 180.

Instead, he whines and attacks through lackey surrogates.

His Presidential timber methinks will be remembered as a fallen tree.

Now that is telling it like it is. Way to go Jeb.

Good for Jeb!

the SwiftBoat Vets have earned the right to be heard and John Kerry has no right to think he can silence them.

If John Kerry thinks he is being smeared, and his record is beyond reproach, why doesn't he simply sign the 180 form and release all of his records?

The fact is, John Kerry is a fraud, he has three different citations for his Bronze and Silver Stars, each tell a slightly different story and his DD214 shows his Silver Star being accompanied by a "V" which is awarded for Valor while under fire. Silver Stars are not awarded unless the recipient was under fire.

I believe John Kerry doctored his DD214 and his entire record while in the Navy and he will be forced to sign Form 180 or he will have no chance of winning this election, and he will go down as the chicken shit he is. Either way, he is a FRAUD

No, no, no. While I love the Bush family; by 2008 the country will have "Bush fatigue". It will be time for Condi Rice for Prez and Sean Hannity or Norm Coleman for VEEP.

Jeb Bush (R) of Coral Gables
Born: February 11, 1953, Midland, Texas.
Education: U. of Texas, B.A., 1973.
Military Service: None.

Looks like Jeb Bush either had a college deferment or a favorable draft number that kept him in college until the war wound down (anticipating Democrat ad hominem attacks).

This is bigger than Kerry.
Think about it --- MUCH of media
turned anti-war also... especially
after Nixon took office.

Kerry is their hero.
Media are trying their damndest
to keep the focus off of Kerry's
anti-war activities.

Smearing the Swifties is PURE PLEASURE for media.

Dad didn't get to be vp and Pres.;

son didn't get to be gov. and Pres.;

and another son gov.; thus far,

without knowing how to do effective political campaigns.

There's a fact check, for you.

My opinion on the 527's is that they should operate by the same rules as the candidates. No soft money and the limits on donations should be the same as well.

Why should George Soros have more freedom of speech then me? Limit the 527's to $2,000.00 per individual and require that all donations be made public. George Soros and the other wealthy leftist have no problem giving their life savings to one of these groups if they think it will ensure a Socialist of their choosing is elected. God only knows who else have donated to these people. I would be willing to bet that MoveOn.org and ACT have taken plenty of foreign donations, after all, John Kerry is loved by the Euroweenies and our enemies!

If he was born in 1953, wouldn't that make him either a junior or senior in High school by the time the war ended? Not even draft age.

Neither the Vets nor civilians like me will stand down this time around.

Kerry shall be defeated, and damn the media, full speed ahead.
