The best jet fighter known to man. "The F-4 Phantom. Proof positive that given a big enough engine, even a brick will fly."

I was standing on the tarmac at Miramar NAS with a bunch of other Boy Scouts when the first F-14 touched down. I think the Secretary of the Navy was a passenger in the RIO seat on that flight. Sad to see them retired.
I was with Hughes Aircraft in the early 1970s when we hung an instrumented (to measure the captive flight environment)Phoenix on flight number 3 of F-14 #3. Don Evans was the pilot and Denny Romano the backseater.

That must have been impressive. I purchased my home in Mira Mesa to enjoy watching the F-14s practice. The front gate at Miramar was 2 miles from my home. Walking distance for the annual airshow.
Thank you for any contributions made to the fine fleet of F-14 aircraft.

I loved to watch the B58 Hustler while stationed at WAFB, Mo.
Later I got to watch the F106s at Minot AFB. Sure love the planes although I never worked on the flight line.
Great thread!
