In related news, Hurricane Frances is now a category 3 storm with winds of 115 mph.

Just had to check the tropics before heading home. Everyone in the eastern Carolinas, try to stay dry, as I think there will be a lot of rain with this one.

Unless you look at the tracking map...the protestors in NYC might be getting wet come Tuesday if it follows the projected path.

Yeah, seriously, what damage can a slow-moving, weak tropical storm do?

Oh, yeah, that's right, Allison caused billions of dollars in damage as a minimal tropical storm and a subsequent downgraded depression.

You need to study hurricanes and tropical systems a bit more, son. A depression forming unexpectedly this close to the coast in the peak of hurricane season is breaking news.

This only makes sense if there are nine this season.

Some people have had enough of Hurricanes, rain, rain and more rain and the damage and disruption of normal, everyday living. For those people, yes it is breaking news.

Especially since, as recently as the 11AM tropical weather discussion, they were not expecting that area to develop quickly.

I bet it makes Cat 1 before it blows out.

It's primarily a flooding risk.

If it goes Hurrican, it will be named Gaston.
My husband says if that is the case, it won't have the 'nads to land on American shores. ; )

Stay safe. Mr. and Mrs. Mabelkitty going to the Jersey shore and keeping track of the systems.

Thanks for the news. We need to plan our upcoming vacation, headed down the Right Coast, always good to know what's on the event horizon.

I live in Gaston, South Carolina. That would be appropriate. If it comes ashore on the South Carolina coast. But we are in the midlands area, close to Columbia.

Tropical Depression 7 will likely become Tropical Storm Gaston. If it moves slowly, then it will dump lots of rain. That happened in 2001 with Tropical Storm Allison when it dumped 40 inches of rain in 5 days, including 28 inches in 12 hours! Hurricane Frances could be a Category 4 or even 5 hurricane because it has been strenghtening.

50 years ago, Hurricane Carol formed in the very same spot and became a Cat-3.
