Marion Jones , right of the U.S. attempts to hand off to teammate Lauryn Williams in the 4 x 100 meter relay final at the 2004 Olympic Games Friday, Aug. 27, 2004 in Athens, Greece. Williams left too early and Jones could not reach her with the baton until it was too late.

Argh. What a shame. Our girls could have won. The 4x100 is so short and manic, little mistakes can compound themselves.

That's too bad. These women were smoking last night in the semifinal. I thought for sure they were getting gold.

Why does the headline say it was Jones' fault and the caption say it was Williams' fault?

Williams left too early and Jones could not reach her with the baton until it was too late.Did Williams leave too early or did Jones muff the pass?
Either way, sounds like they blew it on the fundamentals.

I just knew they would get a gold and a world record. Man that sucks.
It's amazing how close victory is.

Gee thanks for posting all the info needed on the headline. Was this going to be on tonight? No fun in watching now that I know how it ends.

Use a spoiler alert! Stop being so inconsiderate!!!

Geez, and they looked so good in the semi-finals last night.
But, is there something going on with some of the black athletes? In every one of the men's hurdle events (3, maybe?) it seems like the favored American lost but almost seemed to give up before the end. One guy just tripped and fell but some of the others, I don't know, just seemed to peter out.
Anyone else notice?
