I never download any beta software. Download 'em at your own risk.

I have had ZERO problems with my SP2 beta version. However, I will reload to get the final version now.

In the old days that was a problem. When there was dial-up, the ISP software had timers that knocked you off-line if there was no activity after a certain period. With broadband, its "always on" so you just stay connected to the Internet 24/7. Once broadband gets really affordable, I believe downloading will become the way to deliver software and upgrades.

I just started to install it and came here to FreeRepublic to drink coffee read the morning news (as is my usual routine), and found this thread about the XP2 SP. I cancelled. I think I'll wait. I'll see what the Freeper consensus is.

I've had it for a couple of weeks....

Might want to check the extensive list of software conflicts prior to installing the update.

After I installed it, I couldn't get on the net. So I uninstalled it. I have wireless, so it didn't take very long. Do I REALLY need this thing?

come on, nobody's gonna wait three hours

There's no law that says you have to sit in front of your computer. Just leave it on at night! Sheesh.

I have a 640 meg "update" that beats the living crap out of this noxious, retarded puspot of an "operating system update" It is called "linux." It is easily downloadable, easily installable, and runs off a cd, so you don't even have to install it on your computer to run it. The Knoppix version of linux runs off a single cd. Anyone here wants a copy and doesn't have dialup, email me at eddiegilchrist@mindspring.com, send me 2 bucks for the postage and the media, and I will mail it to ya.

Failing that, download mozilla firefox. Beats the heck out of IE.

OK,,
DOne everything is there and no problems on the first boot
It gave me a new security system and an Anti-virus program which i turned off (I used Norton Internet security)

I download only 97mg and with the pause and restart it took just under an hour

Looks fine so far
going to check my hi-tech games, cad, maps, office, etc.,

Looks like a piece of cake

Questions?
