Survey says whites not majority in Texas anymore

HOUSTON White non-Hispanics are no longer the majority in Texas -- for the first time since the 1800's.

Today's Census Bureau survey says whites stopped being the majority in Texas as of last year.

Also, the numbers show that Texas joined only Illinois and North Carolina in having a poverty rate that measurably increased -- while income decreased -- in 2002-03.

Texas state demographer Steve Murdock says the two trends are related as economic woes have slowed white migration from other states.

Luis Figueroa with the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund says the future of Latinos is the future of Texas, as the population numbers show.

Also:

-- Most of the Texas population expansion since 2000 has come from births and international immigration -- both sources of predominantly Hispanic growth.

-- The black population remained basically flat, at around ten-point-eight percent.

-- Asian-Americans now account for about three percent of the Texas population.

After 150 years, Mexico has recaptured part of her lost territory. And promptly turns the recaptured territory into a Third World country.

Like I said in other posts, I feel helpless between the multi cultural Democrats and cheap labor, socially darwinistic WSJ wing of the GOP. I know while most people are focused on the Swift Boat vets, they ignore the real demographic disaster that is taking place in the US. It makes me physically ill, questioning if I should even vote.

Most don't realize is that there are still millions of good American patriots left in Cali. Many of us stand more than a few paces to the right of President Bush.

Many of us saw this epic invasion going nationwide years ago. It's now pushing full steam to all points.

Those that use to laugh about California's borders problems were too near sighted and or ignorant to realize it was happening right under their noses. Most are no longer laughing and understand what an epic, nationwide, government approved crisis/scandal this really turning into.

The swift boat tit for tat will eventually head to the back pages and disappear. This disturbing, titanic invasion will not be going away and only escalates and grows worse.

It's healthy to indulge in a bit of fatalism but you better get out and vote this time. If you think this is bad, wait till Kerry gets in office.

They're taking a purple club to minority whites in Greenwich Village? I don't think that will work in Texas.

I believe it, just taking a look around my side of town is proof. Even the blacks have moved out of here as the Hispanics take over. A lot of them do not speak English and I hope to leave soon.

That's only because most Hispanics don't vote. Give them a few years to turn this into a Democrat controlled state like California, Arizona, etc.

Texas will not fall as long as there are great Americans like Hank Hill and Dale Gribble to defend her!

Unless they're on the border keeping out the hordes of illegals, Texas will eventually fall. Take a good look at California, that will be Texas' fate before you know it.

You bet. Wait until the organized La Raza groups start pounding their chests with their new found power in numbers. Then the illegal alien unions will kick in. It will happen, and the folks in Texas, like the Alamo, will be totally out numbered.

Hispanics are far from idiots and they work their tails off at as many jobs as it takes to get ahead. The Democrats may con them into believing the Dems are their friends for awhile, but they will see through those lies in short order and become Republicans.

Most are Catholic as well, and will soon turn on the dems for their pro-abortion stand.

I'm all for preventing illegal immigration and restricting legal immigration, especially from our southern border. It's easier said than done, but we're not doing enough.

Having said that, some of the biggest rednecks in the company I work for are hispanic. I don't know the family histories of all of them, but I imagine most have been here for at least one generation. Some, I know, go back further than the Texas revolution.

There is absolutely no reason why hispanics can't become more reliable GOP voters than whites or any other race, unlike blacks where this seems to be an insitutional problem. With hispanics, at least in Texas, it seems to be more broken down along economic lines than racial lines. Middle class hispanics and above vote for our guys.

Big deal. The important statistic is how many are Americans. Articles such as this one seem to try and splinter people into being scared of others with different skin.

Are you suggesting the illegal aliens pouring into Texas vote? Or are you under the impression that Texas is changing due to legal Hispanics? To compound the problem, the legal Hispanics on the lower end of the economic ladder will always for the leftist socialist. It's just a fact of life Dog, regardless of what they may say to your face.

"John O'Sullivan did an article in National Review a year or so ago that indicated that because of demographics Texas would cease to be Republican in the not too distant future."

What O'Sullivan doesn't calculate is that more and more Hispanics (those born in 1960's and after) do not auotmaticlly pull the lever for the Democrats like their parents or grandparents did. More and more are joining the GOP (like my wife) or are independents and do not shy away from voting GOP and admiting it.

For example, Rick Perry got something like 30% of the Hispanic vote in the last election for governor against a millionare Hispanic that outspent Perry big time. The so called political experts in this state thought Sanchez was going to get 80-90% of the hispanic vote and they were shocked when he didn't. The Hispanic vote is not like the hispanic vote in California or New York and is certainly not like the black vote in most parts of this country. Hispanics here in Texas are pro military, pro gun owners right, anit abortion and anti gay rights. When they see their party in Washington not paying attention to those issues, more and more are "adios" to the Rats,

Then the illegal alien unions will kick in.

Yup. The AFL-CIO is waiting in the wings to organize these illegals if/when amnesty is granted. I've talked to a couple of our own local union recruiters and they're having wet dreams over the shear numbers of potential union members that this would bring.

No, the evidence indicates that illegal aliens in Texas don't vote to much extent. It may be a problem along the border towns, but I don't think we can tell, because there's no accountability there. Those counties have been run by Democrats since statehood, and probably always will be. In many ways, counties in Texas are more powerful than the state. It's in the state constitution, and there's no move to change it.

The border counties are probably corrupt as hell, but there's little that can be done about it at the state level. I don't know if you ever heard of the Duke of Duval (county) but we had to bring in the Feds to bust his control over that county.

I don't disagree that poor hispanics will vote Democrat. Unfortunately most poor people in this country have been conditioned to vote for handouts. But in Texas, at least, not all poor people are hispanics, and not all hispanics are poor people. The ones talking to my face happen to be successful professional hispanics because that's the kind of company I work at.
