Batman rips Robin: Adm. Schachte disputes Kerry's 1st Purple Heart claim in new Novak column
Beldar Blog ^ | August 26, 2004 | William Dyer

Posted on 08/26/2004 2:42:58 PM PDT by mcg1969

I'm told that now coming across the newswires is a new column from Bob Novak that contains extensive quotes from Retired Rear Adm. William L. Schachte Jr.

Schachte, call-sign "Batman," has broken his press silence to insist that he was indeed aboard the Boston Whaler or "skimmer" in the early morning mission on December 2, 1968, out of which Sen. John Kerry's first Purple Heart was awarded. Schachte maintains that Kerry's minor arm wound was not sustained while under enemy fire, but was indeed the result of Kerry — code-named "Robin" on this mission — being careless in firing an M-79 grenade launcher. Other officers are quoted to support the likelihood of Schachte's presence.

I'll update this post when I can find the full Novak column online.

This should put finis to Kerry's plans to go on TV sunday evening and insist that war crimes were committed and it's all Nixon's fault.

He and McAwfull are drowning in their lies and spin.

I don't understand. The New York Times told me that all the charges against Kerry had been discredited.

Why did he fire the m-79? Just for the hell of it or an accidental discharge?

That's one of the really swell things about the truth. You can plan against the spin. I think O'Neill's discipline has been incredible. Sitting there as Carville and Davis scream about "not on the same boat," without screaming back, "Oh, yeah?" as I probably would have done. This indeed has been a marvelously laid out campaign.

"Two officers in a 14 foot boat doesn't make sense to me unless maybe it was an orientation trip for a new guy." ,

I think sKerry was the new guy. What is big here I think is that SKerry has said there were only himself and two enlisted men in the boat. If the Admiral is going public with a claim that he was also in the boat, I think we can chaulk up another sKerry lie.

Damn, I wish I had my "Unfit For Command" book, its on order at B.Dalton , they said they would call when they get some more copies in. I bet a lot of questions I have are answered in the book. I seem to have heard that there were to be two boats in the operation and one had mechanical problems, this could also account for two officers being aboard the boat. sKerry was definitely the Jr officer aboard.

You know, I love it when someone who has been wronged gets revenge. And when it takes a long time to get that revenge, it's all the sweeter!

These brave fighting men had to sit silently for over 30 years and take abuse because of what anti-war activists like John Kerry did to them. They had to sit in prison camps and listen to Kerry's arrogant, pristine voice reciting allegations of war crimes against them. They had to come home and be spat upon and insulted, while Kerry pranced around in upscale political circles. They had to turn on the TV and see vets such as themselves portrayed and psychotic, drunken losers, while Kerry, who helped create that image, used his anti-war fame to gain election to high office. They had to work for a living, often with painful physical trauma from their war experience, while Kerry married rich heiresses who took care of his financial needs.

Then, after all those years, Kerry launched a campaign for the presidency, and had the audacity to bill himself as a Vietnam war hero, a "leader of a band of brothers". Those vets he had abused for decades finally had enough. They fired back and they've scored a direct hit.

God bless those veterans! They served their country 35 years ago, and they're still serving it today.

Oh oh, I think Kerry deserves another PH for this zinger, right in the gonads, but it was from friendly fire.

Wonder if Kerry knew this when he left Vietnam after 4 months and 12 days under questionable circumstances? And he asks why do they all hate him? Not good, not good at all.

This could give Hillary a reason to step in.

Yep. Carvile brought checkers to a chess match. Now he'll probably complain that O'Neill lied by not telling up front all the cards he had in his hand.
