Um, I heard the clip of Kerry's statement, and I don't think you're quoting it correctly. Since I refuse to register for the source, I'll have to assume you got it from them. But it's still not the way I heard it.

This is the direct quote from the online NYT:

"The truth, which is what elections are all about, is that the tax burden of the middle class has gone up while the tax burden of the middle class has gone down," he said.

It is probably either a misprint or a misquote. Still in all, it is funny and believable.

BUGMENOT

From NY Times

The candidates' fitness to be commander in chief erupted again even as Kerry headed to Pennsylvania and Wisconsin to tell voters he could produce better, higher-paying jobs from the White House than President Bush has and improve the lives of the middle class.

"The truth, which is what elections are all about, is that the tax burden of the middle class has gone up while the tax burden of the middle class has gone down," he said.

Kerry planned a "front porch" visit in Green Bay, Wis., after leaving Philadelphia

I didn't "type" it in I "copy and pasted" it. I hate typing. Whether he said it or not, I have no idea. The NY Times online posted it exactly as I copied it.

I would only steal accurately from the "newspaper of record".
