Perhaps you, also, should learn the difference between an ad and an interview. And they do own the name, your pronouncement notwithstanding.

No doubt, someone owns the phrase "New York World Trade Center." If they inisisted Bush not use it in an ad, would it hold up in court? I doubt it.

LOL.

Some people aren't really lawyers but they slept in a Holiday Inn last night.

Exactly. But we're dealing with a person who is playing a different kind of game here, folks.

Jeez. I didn't say it did. This is ridiculous.

Okay, for the benefit of the whole thread, real slowly...

Filing a lawsuit does not mean you have a legal right to enforce.

NOT filing a lawsuit does not mean you do NOT have a legal right to enforce.

What exactly was the Olympics complaining about?

I haven't seen the ad, but I understand that the Bush-Cheney ad trumpets the fact that there are now two more nations sending teams to the Olympics. That's it. The IOC and the USOC are whining because the ad uses the word "Olympics."

Publishing a textbook is a commercial activity, right? Using the word "Olympics" can be viewed as enhancing that activity, right?

This election is turning into a "whinefest" by the left.

I agree. This is going to get interesting.

I don't know why people seem to think that when the White House, which has the benefit of excellent legal representation, says it is on sound legal ground, that this is even an argument.

If the Olympic Committee thought it had the basis of a lawsuit, they would have said so loudly and clearly in order to further embarrass the White House. That they have not threatened such action tells me they don't think they have grounds to do so.

"We're on very firm legal ground to mention the Olympics, to make a factual point in a political advertisement," said BC'04 spokesman Scott Stanzel...

That's the first sentence you are hooting about. Where is all that talk about a lawsuit?

I made a simple request. Try to see if you can comply.

Better watch it, Javelina. Actual discussion of the basis of the IOC's complaint, without some mention of just how GREAT it is that the campaign is brushing it off, is not tolerated here.
