This is the first time I have noticed the mention of supressive fire from the other boats. Rassmann could well
have been hearing that. I wonder why no mention was made of this.
To: mitchellgr
Very good find. This is perhaps the best summary of a confused situation I have seen.

"The boats had begun firing after the mine exploded, but they ceased after a short time because of the lack of hostile fire."
Kerry was long gone by then.

Superb find. I'm of a mind to make numerous copies of this letter and distribute it wherever I go. The fact that Kerry is a U.S. Senator is disgraceful. How he can even look at himself in the mirror is a mystery to me.

Thanks, there should be more made of this supressive fire.
If Kerry's boat went down the river a ways after the mine blew up the other boat, it would be easy to mistake the supressive fire for hostile fire, if you were a ways away. Also, Rassman said, on TV at one point, that he was diving to the bottom of the river to avoid the propellors of the boat and what he may have thought was ememy fire. It must have been disorienting to fall from the boat and that could cloud his perception.

Grant Holcomb's excellent chronology of Kerry's last missiion in Vietnam highlights two events that have not been focused upon together and should be emphasized:
(1) Kerry abandoned the other boats and fled from what he thought was a battle, and
(2) he abandoned his own boat and rode home with the wounded.

Ramsey Clark to Join Panel for Saddams Defense
arabnews press release 25 August 2004
NOTE :
Ramsey Clark is pictured below with Kerry and
Vietnam phony vet Al Hubbard
Who was head of the
Vietnam Veterans Against the War movement.

From Kerry's "The New Soldier":
Al Hubbard Sgt., 22 Troop Carrier Squadron Aug. 65-June 66
Emotions: Walking down the flight line at Saigon past stacks of aluminum cases containing American bodies and past stacks of aluminum luggage containing American currency. Seeing the tight, sad face of an Airman loading the bodies aboard a dirty Air Force Transport and the wide smiling face of a stewardess greeting the passengers aboard a clean Pan American Clipper Jet. Hearing a Vietnamese beg you to leave his country and an American colonel tells you to bomb his country. Hearing a Vietnamese invite you to live in his home, after the war and an American explain why you cant live in his block, after the war. Flying over barren, brown, safe American held terrain and over lush, green unsafe enemy terrain. Feeling happy to be leaving a country in which you do not belong and sad to be returning to a country in which you are not allowed to belong. Sacrificing a portion of your consciousness so you wont have to deal with being there and building mental blocks so you wont have to deal with having been there.
- Al Hubbard, proven fraud who never set foot in Viet Nam. The only Vietnamese he ever met was when he was collaborating with the North Vietnamese in Paris
on the American Communist Party's nickel.
John Kerry's explanation: "He (Hubbard) simply exaggarated his particular position.
But nobody knew it at the time. And those things happen."

NEW:
Without question,
we were held captive longer because of the anti-war people,
the Kerrys, the Fondas and Haydens,
the names we knew over there -
they encouraged the enemy to hang on.

This suppression fire has been mentioned in several accounts.
This analysis, however, puts every single factor I think I've heard about this incident into a clear presentation.... ah... with the possible exception that there is more to the story about what happened to sKerry after this "third purple heart" incident.

I read somewhere that Rassmann got a Purple Heart on the same day... so there needs to be hostile fire, otherwise his medal would also be a fraud.
To: mitchellgr
Del Sandusky was on Colmes radio show tonight and said that after the 3 boat hit the mine, all boats commenced firing for two minutes...
To: mitchellgr
That's powerful and compelling. The author has a clear and lucid mind.
