The sudden resignation of Bush's top lawyer doesn't end the extensive web of connections between George Bush and the group trying to smear John Kerry's military record," said Kerry-Edwards campaign manager Mary Beth Cahill. "In fact, it only confirms the extent of those connections."
A senior House Democrat, Michigan Rep. John Dingell, sent a letter asking Attorney General John Ashcroft to investigate the possible "illegal coordination" between the two. The Bush campaign and the veterans group have denied any coordination.

Drudge:
"Dems late Wednesday asked Attorney General John Ashcroft to open a criminal investigation into links between the Bush camp and the anti-Kerry veterans' group... "
Can they not see how transparently hypocritical this looks?
He gave a terrific interview with Fox tonight...He could not disclose as he was a lawyer advising the Swift Boat people and confidentiality forbade him disclosing to the Bush campaign....
He tendered his resignation to keep from feeding the political fury..not because he was coordinating...He says the dems know this isn't illegal to give legal advice to both but he resigned to avoid "getting in the way of Bush message".
His role was to be sure they complied with campaign laws.
Yeah, I'm sure Ashcroft will get right on that. No problem. It's not like he doesn't have anything else on his plate at the moment.
Ben Ginsberg is one of the best, I have admired him for along time. He is one stand up guy, he did the right thing and was great tonight.
With all the connections the Dems have to 527's you'd think the Kerry campaign would not make an issue of this.
Ashcroft should accomodate them. Investigate all links of both parties to 527's.
In yet another case the republican's take the high road and are nailed to the wall for it. Meanwhile there are many cases that would nail teh dems. And we hear crickets in the MSM.
This whole campaign finance law is getting out of hand. I mean whatever happened to the freakin' first amendment. Now we have all these lawyers and judges telling everybody what they can say, who can talk to who, etc. Rush was right, campaign finance reform was a huge, ridiculous pandoras box that was going to be the end of free speech in this country.
This is OK.......
