What We've Really Lost In This Indefensible War ***Breslin Alcoholic Stupor Alert***
Newsday ^ | August 24, 2004 | Jimmy Breslin

Posted on 08/25/2004 6:37:58 PM PDT by O.C. - Old Cracker

There were four Marines and an Army soldier killed in Iraq in one 24-hour period over the weekend.

George Bush, who does not like people who go to war, probably will say that they are not dead.

As of Aug. 20, we list 952 of our troops killed in fighting.

That is the Defense Department figure. When the figure goes over 1,000, that can be devastating in an election.

Jimmy set the bottle aside for five minutes in order to pen this sanctimonious drivel.

Makes you wonder if there is any reason for which people like Breslin would condone our fighting in a war. Evidently, our fight to stop a proven enemy from attacking us a second time is not reason enough.

Please add a barf alert on top of the other alert.
I'd like to see the Newsday from the Vietnam era when the deaths hit 1000 and see if it was played up as such a big number.
If it was nearing 500, the big number would be 500, if it were nearing 5000, the big number would be 5000.
What's magic about 1000?
The magic number is 1. That's the number that breaks the heart of one family and our CINC.
God Bless President Bush.

"When the figure goes over 1,000, that can be devastating in an election."

Reminds me of the comment Paula Zahn made on 9/11 after the planes hit the WTC. Something like...

"This could very well have political implications."

'"My son was a beautiful young man. Everybody speaks about his smile. He had such a beautiful smile. My husband's smile. I say to my husband, 'Could you please smile so I can see my son's face?'" '

Heartbreaking. If it weren't written for such shameful advantage by this sot, I would be totally taken up. I hope and pray that this nice mother doesn't do a Berg, altho in personal grief over your own child, I could even forgive her that.....I just don't want Breslin panting around the corner to scoop up a picture of her tears for his ant-Bush story.

The figure already is over 1,000, if you count the coalition allies. The figure is well BELOW 1,000 if you count only the combat deaths.

but here's the rub: It's terrorists who are doing the killing. And we are hitting them back, both in Iraq and elsewhere... every few days you hear "American bombers bombed a target in Fallijah"... we are just taking out terrorist hideouts one by one.

This 'we're dont for' hysterics simply dont wash...
we have squeezed the mahdi army down to a

The hysterics miss the big picture - 50 million people from brutal tyranny to democracy is not easy. And the big picture is that, in these particular fights, despite the loss of life - WE ARE WINNING.

Folks, we are winning. We have won every battle, and unlike Vietnam, we had the political willpower to see it through to victory, no matter what the jackasses in the media who will not venture out of their hotels to report say. We own all the lines of communication, we own the capital, we own the ports, we control the sky, the ground and the utilities. We are fighting a mopping up operation, just as we did until 1951 in Germany. Tragic when we lose anyone, but the cost of not finishing this off is going to be far higher than the "cut and run" we did in Afghanistan when we left a power vacuuma after the soviets. I and every soldier who has ever signed the dotted line know we put a big f***ing target on our chest, no matter what job you hold. I'd rather take one in Balad than have my daughters get killed in another city attack like 9/11. We MUST keep Bush in office to see this through. Lets not talk about it Freepers, start cracking open the wallets for the Swifties and GW, or volunteering to get out your friends to vote. I in no way think Kerry has the spine to see this through and our enemies know it to the core. Oh yeah, any takers on a $5 bet that they won't hit us before election day???? I wonder what the Vegas odds are.
