George is a gentlemanly Midwesterner who went to Brown and Columbia and has contributed to Esquire, Rolling Stone and Vanity Fair -- he speaks in well-upholstered sentences that make all local stops. Joanna is a Bronx-born, fifth-generation New Yorker with the crust and moxie to prove it. She talks fast. She takes no lip. Her interview style has been compared with a mugging.
Seven years ago, George and Joanna wound up on the "Page Six" column of the New York Post. Many items later they became one -- in 1992, on Frank Sinatra's birthday, they got married.
Both converted to the Daily News in 1993. While George began a gossip column of his own, Joanna tried to get out of the racket by writing on the night shift about murders and fires. Alas, she was haunted by her celebrity scoops (Woody Allen's affair with Mia Farrow's stepdaughter; the contents of Hollywood Madam Heidi Fleiss' black book). Eventually, their editors commanded the couple to reunite.
