he was not at home, he was at a private resort.

Yes it sounds unlikely that they would hit their exact target... and yes I have only found one news release making this claim that Putin was the target at the resort.

It sounds like over kill no doubt, but is that not what they want?

Is it really that hard to crash a jet in a area where a President is at? Even if they missed him... they still get the message out that they are still able to hijack planes and spread terror. They also kill many passengers and they destroy 2 jets with a attempt to kill a president even if they miss him, but they get close enough to him where he just happens to be vacationing... Do I need to go on?

It is late and I am going to hit the bed...

I remember Tony Blair being on vacation when a airplane went down near where he was on vacation.

Got a source for that?

AP's breaking news is reporting three items of interest:

1. Witnesses reported an explosion before the northern crash.

2. The tail section of the fuselage of the northern crash was found separate from other wreckage.

3. The wreckage from the southern crash is "spread out over an area of 25 to 30 kilometers.

While eyewitness reports of explosions have to be taken with a grain of salt, large crash footprints indicate a midair breakup.

If you choose to assume that the two incidents are related, then you need to start looking along the lines of simultaneaus or near simultaneaus mid-air explosions.

I would associate the use or even possession of explosives in an air piracy to be less indicative of an attempt to use the aircraft as missiles to destroy a ground target, but this is far from conclusive.

It was a french jet I believe... There is a thread on FR and plenty of info about Tony Blair being near the crash site in the thread. Maybe someone will tell you the name of the airline, but it was a small company. It happened in the last 8 months or so. Google News Tony Blair and Plane Crash or Jet Crash.

do a google search on Sochi Club... if you have the time, maybe you can find some pictures of the area.

Good point. I'm sure they have a few good snipers with better accuracy than flying a big plane from the sky into him.

Repeating, Jarrah and Atta both used GPS to navigate to their respective targets, even though Jarrah fell a little short of the mark. Good in fog, overcast, and at night, my unit takes me to within 5 to 7 feet of a target chosen by either a previous visit or from digital map coordinates available online.

I'm going to call it a night soon myself, but I wanted to re-iterate that I'm not ruling Putin out as a target. Two at once says Al Qaeda, even though they rarely overtly take credit, instead assigning it to some unheard of grou so everyone knows it's them, but the admission isn't legally actionable.

If it was terrorism, and if Putin was the target, and if AQ was the perpetrator, tomorrow (Wednesday) through the weekend is a very good time to be aware of what's going on around you. Could be a busy day.

Regardless of what happens, remember that calm and rational thinking are our best allies.
