That's interesting and perhaps some doctor or nurse on board can tell us the answer.

Isn't that the BIG magnet??? would think if there is any metal in your body you would meet that magnet pretty darn hard...

It's OK - the shrapnel was actually rice.

They asked me the same questions about having metal in my body. Rods, pins, screws, etc. If the shrapnel is lead would it affect it? Or is the shrapnel steel?

Just posed the question to my physician-husband,
and after he thought about it for a few seconds only,
he said "I can't answer that question. I don't know."

No MRI if you have any metal in you (shrapnel, braces, pins, etc.)

Had one recently -- they definitely ask about shrapnel and any other kind of metal that may be in your body. I do not know what they choose to do when such shrapnel exists and they really need a image of that person.
It was a long and thorough questionnaire but it didn't seem to ask the big question: Do you have rice embedded anywhere on your person?

MRI Scan At A Glance MRI scanning uses magnetism, radio waves, and a computer to produce images of body structures. MRI scanning is painless and does not involve x-ray radiation. Patients with heart pacemakers, metal implants, or metal chips or clips in or around the eyes cannot be scanned with MRI because of the effect of the magnet. Claustrophobic sensation can occur with MRI scanning.
From a medical site...what do you think?
To: MojoWire
I have had an MRI and they asked me about any metal. I believe you are right, but it would depend on what part of his body they performed the MRI on.
Me, personally, I want to see proof that Kerry has shrapnel, as he appears to have lied about so much else. I think it's a case of he had shrapnel before he didn't have it.

Just had one last week and one of the standard questions asked was if I had any metal plates, screws, pins, stints, or anything metal in my body that a magnet may attract.
There used to be a video of an MRI machine sucking an iron oxygen tank across the room and right into the machine. Dont mess with magnets.
You may be onto something here......

I know you're not supposed to be wearing metal (like jewelry), but I'm not sure about metal inside of you. Then again, I'm not a physician I only play one on the Internet.

I think if you just have a small piece in your leg, they can still able to do an MRI of your head.
