AMMAN, 25 August 2004 Former US Justice Secretary Ramsey Clark is expected to join a legal team seeking to defend former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein before a special Iraqi tribunal, the panels chairman Mohammad Rashdan announced yesterday.
Negotiations are under way for Clarks joining of the team, Rashdan told Arab News, without going into details.
Clark, an ardent sympathizer with Saddams government, will become one of the distinguished members of the panel, that also included former French Foreign Minister Roland Dumas and some 20 prominent Arab and non-Arab lawyers who volunteered to defend the former Iraqi leader.
Rashdan also revealed that a group of Iraqi lawyers will arrive in Amman shortly for coordinating the groups efforts. He refused to divulge their names for security reasons.
Under the Iraq Bar Association bylaws, any foreign lawyer seeking involvement in litigation before Iraqi courts should be accompanied by an Iraqi lawyer.
Contacts are going on among Amman, Paris and Geneva to ensure travel of the legal team at the opportune time for defending President Saddam, Rashdan said.
Ensuring physical protection of the teams members while in Iraq so far represented the most thorny issue after they received assassination threats by Iraqi ministers and groups affiliated with the government, according to team members.
Rashdan earlier said that his panel was obliged to resort to private protection to be provided by certain firms in Iraq after the Iraqi government failed to guarantee safety of the teams members.
Saddam appeared in public before a special Iraqi court for the first time on July 1, when he refused to sign the indictment list in the absence of his lawyers.
Iraqi Interim Prime Minister Iyad Allawi recently called for speeding up trial of Saddam and other figures of the previous regime.
Kommies and Anarchists are infiltrating our system to a point of power.... This all seems a little creepy if you ask me.
From Kerry's "The New Soldier":
Al Hubbard Sgt., 22 Troop Carrier Squadron Aug. 65-June 66
Emotions: Walking down the flight line at Saigon past stacks of aluminum cases containing American bodies and past stacks of aluminum luggage containing American currency. Seeing the tight, sad face of an Airman loading the bodies aboard a dirty Air Force Transport and the wide smiling face of a stewardess greeting the passengers aboard a clean Pan American Clipper Jet. Hearing a Vietnamese beg you to leave his country and an American colonel tells you to bomb his country. Hearing a Vietnamese invite you to live in his home, after the war and an American explain why you cant live in his block, after the war. Flying over barren, brown, safe American held terrain and over lush, green unsafe enemy terrain. Feeling happy to be leaving a country in which you do not belong and sad to be returning to a country in which you are not allowed to belong. Sacrificing a portion of your consciousness so you wont have to deal with being there and building mental blocks so you wont have to deal with having been there.
- Al Hubbard, proven fraud who never set foot in Viet Nam. The only Vietnamese he ever met was when he was collaborating with the North Vietnamese in Paris on the American Communist Party's nickel.
John Kerry's explanation: "He (Hubbard) simply exaggarated his particular position. But nobody knew it at the time. And those things happen."

We predicted this a long time ago here on the forum, did we not? He and Saddam have been buddies for a good long while.
Print out and wear as a Campaign Button or go HERE to print.
Feel free to reuse this anywhere you wish...
I've had over 300 hit on the website & about 40 positive replies since I started posting this Campaign Button this evening...
I think treason has completely lost its meaning to these people.. they are completely out of control.
I'll bump that!!
OH,
I see Kerry and Ramsey Clark have been buddies a long time.
Memories.
Another GREAT post, Tonk.
Now why does Ramsey Clark's behavior not surprise me? That photo of Ramsey and JeFnK tells a lot when coupled with Ramsey's latest act to tell us what a Pres. Kerry (ugggggg! I even hate to say that, haaaccck! haccckk! piteweee!) would be like in the war on terror.
Thanks for the ping!
He should have been arrested with Fonda and Kerry decades ago and tried for war crimes, treason and other high crimes, found guilty, and then hung and left outside the DNC head quarters as a subtle reminder.
