CHICAGO (CBS 2) Rock star Dave Matthews and his tour bus driver are facing a filthy lawsuit.
The Illinois Attorney General's office says they're responsible for dumping up to 100-gallons of raw human waste from a tour bus onto the Kinzie Street Bridge earlier this month.
The nasty mess rained down on passengers aboard a sightseeing boat two weeks ago.
The suit charges both the band and the bus driver with violating state water pollution laws, as well as common law public nuisance laws.
A spokesman for the band says all of its tour buses were parked at the time of the incident.

Q. What has influenced you to be environmentally conscious? Is there a specific environmental issue that concerns you more than others?
A. I grew up in a family that loved nature from the birds in the backyard to camping trips in all kinds of beautiful places. That is what has given me a love and respect for the majesty of the natural world and an awareness of how fragile and precious a resource it is. The dangers we face as natures delicate balance is more and more damaged are many. Everything we do to the environment we do to ourselves. Its truly about selfpreservation. The most pressing danger is global warming. The reason I believe this is because the negative impact of our century long dependence on fossil fuels and deforestation is just starting to be felt. We cannot take back the CO2 which has already been emitted.
Q. Tell us a little about your partnership with the One Sweet Whirled campaign.
A. We worked with MusicMatters to bring this global warming campaign together. Weve partnered with Ben & Jerrys and SaveOurEnvironment.org to let people know that global warming is man made and the solution is man made too. Its easy to reduce your personal carbon dioxide emissions by thousands of pounds per year just by doing simple things like driving less, turning down the thermostat a couple of degrees in the winter, recycling, and replacing incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescents.
Were also asking everybody to send a letter to Congress and let their voices be heard about global warming concerns and what to do about them. People can learn more and take action at OneSweetWhirled.org. And its cool that Ben & Jerrys has created our very own ice cream flavor named after us and the campaign. Proceeds from the flavor go on to our Bama Works Foundation and then on to help global warming initiatives.
The campaign is doing a lot of good, and its presented in a fun easy way. Its great that all these environmental groups have come together to support the campaign. Its been a successful partnership, and were proud to be helping the fight against global warming.
Q. What made you decide to get involved with a global warming campaign?
A. We dont know all the consequences of global warming, only that they will be catastrophic. I believe the planet can survive us, but can we survive the planet? Climate change is the single most important issue facing the world. More than politics, more than economics, more than disease, more than war. We cannot decide whether or not to be involved in this issue. We are all involved.
Q. What impact has the One Sweet Whirled campaign had so far?
A. So far, over sixty thousand people have taken the pledge to reduce their personal carbon dioxide emissions resulting in over two hundred million pounds of carbon dioxide being eliminated from the atmosphere. And, over 73,000 letters have been sent to Congress requesting support of environmental initiatives, and over 14,000 individuals have signed up to become email activist members of SaveOurEnvironment.org. Pretty impressive, and the numbers are still climbing Were just getting started.
Q. What was the motivation for the song One Sweet Whirled?
A. As far as we can tell the earth is the only hospitable planet. One tiny water soaked rock. One tiny planet for all the birds, trees, fish, flowers, monkeys, rivers, oceans and people. One tiny planet. The first and last as far as we can tell.
Q. How do you incorporate your environmental beliefs into your daily life and into your work as a musician?
A. I walk when I can, drive a fuel efficient car, use economical appliances, recycle, try and eat organic food grown without pesticides and fertilizers that damage the soil. To compensate for the pollution that I cause through touring, I support environmental education, I support tree planting efforts and alternative energy sources (wind, water and sun). Through the Climate Cool Program, we are completely offsetting all of our tour CO2 emissions. There is no need to stop enjoying life. The smallest changes make a difference.
Q. What role do you think the entertainment industry should play in regards to protecting the environment?
A. Anyone in the public eye has the luxury of an audience. It takes very little effort to use it.
Your commie classmate
When I hear a DMB song, I have the same feeling as the poor folks on the boat...
. . . who should know better. . .
Would not this dumping of raw sewage go beyond a 'nuisance' law and into a 'public endangerment'. . .threat to public health and safety?
An environmental terrorism?
Talk about your sailing through a sh**storm.

Want some gray poop on?
...part of a continuing trend. Before that, with the help of other performers/groups like the Cranberries, they helped make grotesquely stylized vocals the norm on popular radio.
They are fingernails across the black board of my musical mind.

No problem His fans will clean it up. |
Not that I want to go back to that type of era but it does seem that entertainers have an exaggerated sense of importance about themselves. It's sort of comical to observe.
I tell ya, I do not see the fascination with this band. Out and out, they suck. Forget the politics, 90% of the bands I like I hate their politics.
Obviously the raw sewage found its way into this interview as well!
I agree completely. Extremely overrated. I mean, you can't even find a good hook in their songs. It's music for macho boys of questionable sexuality, and the girls who dig such guys.
Somewhere in Chicago there is a young girl who is really PO'd that she showered off Dave Matthews' sh*t and p#ss.
