A couple of months ago, we rolled out G.O.P. Portal Interactive Wallpaper, powered by Deskpops. And the response was incredible. Thousands of news junkies realized they could keep up with the latest news from Newsmax, WorldNetDaily and more, right on their desktops...and we mean RIGHT ON THEIR DESKTOPS!
But now, we've made a great service even better!
Instead of 5 news sources, G.O.P. Portal Interactive Wallpaper now features over 70 sources, including Free Republic, Newsmax, WorldNetDaily, Steyn Online, The Christian Science Monitor and more. You can also find the latest news from the Bush-Cheney 04 Campaign and raw news feeds from AP and Reuters. Plus, the latest from some of America's top conservative bloggers, like Roger L. Simon and Captain's Quarters.
All totalled, you'll have access to thousands of news headlines in one place, updated regularly throughout the day. And just a click to one of the headlines opens the story in your browser for quick reading.
Get Deskpops Now!
Deskpops requires a broadband (DSL, Cable Modem, T1, T3) connection and Windows 98, ME, 2000 or XP. Deskpops won't slow your computer down or cause any conflicts with your current software. It works silently in the background, fetching content and bringing it to your desktop. It couldn't be easier, and it couldn't be cooler.
And current users of G.O.P. Portal Interactive Wallpaper don't have to do anything, the update happens automatically.
Best of all, it's absolutely free!

Thanks for the info. Looks like it's something to explore. I do have a couple of questions, though. You know of any SpyWare type programs that might be hiding in this thing? Anybody else know of anything harmful in this program. I an very leery of any of these "free" programs that seem to come back and bite me. Thanks.

Downside... my wide-screen resolution isn't supported (left a bar on the side) and being on the desktop, I cannot see while working (I use everything maximized).
Looked cool though -- others might like it.

There's no spyware or anything. I've run Adaware and Spybot Search & Destroy on it. It's free but it's got a banner ad on it.

If you have FR you have it all. No need for any other source of news and information.

Because I know I'll get flamed if I posted a whole thread about Democrat Underground, I thought I'd find the most recent thread about Free Republic and post this: I was doing recon work over there and laughed aloud when I saw them use this subject line in a call-to-action/email an editor thread:
FREEP this Witch!
ROFLOL! They HATE us, yet they're using our Lexicon!!!

It uses Internet Explorer. Therefore, unsafe at any speed. There's nothing wrong with trying to do this except that IE is so vulnerable and so heavily targetted.
Maybe they'll have the time to make a plugin for Mozilla/Firefox. It's not like making a web page into a live newsfeed is so earthshaking anyway. In order to see it, you have to minimize your regular work. And if you're not working and just browsing, it's much better to control all this via a browser window.
I get much the same effect by using tabbed browsing in Firefox.
However, the real import of this wallpaper is that FreeRepublic generates probably a hundred times as much content as the other four sources combined.
It would be more accurate to simply call this 'FreeRepublic wallpaper'. Especially since the best content of those other sites is already available on FR itself. It is the branding of it with the GOP im
I think that perhaps the Robinsons are to be congratulated on this. It's something of a milestone in FR's visibility. FR, as a co-branding partner of DeskPops, can only benefit.
