No, read the book: just before the 2000 election (I think--could be off on the timing, but it was recent) Kerry offered to have Doug Brinkley CHANGE his book, "Tour of Duty," in which he soundly criticized Hoffmann, if Hoffmann would change his story and support Kerry. Hoffmann recaled when he first got the call he thought it was BOB KERREY, but when he realized it was John Kerry, he told him politely to buzz off. His story stood. So this doesn't surprise me at all!
