During the Civil War, the Medal of Honor was handed out for reenlisting too.

The military has since Vietnam, reversed course..the CMH is harder to win now..indeed many say that the only way to win it now is posthumously...if you survive..it's bumped down to to the Navy Cross, or DSC..if you rewsad some of the citations for the Navy Crosses recently awarded to Marines..many posted on FR..it's hard not to imagien these being worthy of the CMH..
