That was the first thing I noticed, but in San Francisco they reserve the right to use whatever gender pronouns they feel comfortable with, regardless of the biology. So it isn't clear. ;)

Nope. That's a very common way that male homosexuals refer to themselves and others.
I worked at a place were almost 30 perfect of the employess were gay. (gay males mostly)
They constantly referred to each other that way. Either that or they called each other "bitch".
