In the 1950's the heirarchy of the communist party in the US was convicted of planning the violent overthrow of the government. The case went to the US Supreme Court and their convictions were unheld even tho they were only issuing pamphlets on how to organize groups to plan the overthrow.
They were fined, jailed, and at last one was deported.
What happened between then and the 70s when these people plotting assassinations were allowed to go free.

I have only been reading the FBI documents between summer 1971 to February of 1972.
There is reports from FBI sources that VVAW was recieving funds from the CPUSA and from a communist party of a country in Europe, which IMHO could have been behind the Iron Curtain. Someone else I know has been working on the communist connection early on in the group. Some VVAW cells were formed by members of communist groups, some were later populated with members from these groups. A lot of the time the communist groups and the VVAW had offices next door to each other and took part in the same activities.
