The Protest Barometer-NYC Rates Expected Mayhem at RNC

You know Bush must go but which protest is right for you? Some protesters are angrier than others. Some will be closer to the GOP Zone. And, some are sending signals that a law or two may be broken. We've laid out your ten best options and rated them on how hot we expect them to get.

A31 August 31, all day, concluding with a 7 p.m. swarming of Madison Square Garden

An ad-hoc collective of anarchist groups has called for a day of direct action, which kicks off at 9:30 a.m. outside Tavern on the Green and culminates in a mass swarming of Madison Square Garden at 7 p.m.. Says a31.org: "A radical affront to democracy calls for a radical response." Think theatrical, yippie-style mayhem, with property damage by more mischievous rabblerousers a distinct possibility.

Expected Crowd Size: Thousands

Rage: 10

The West Side Highway is for wimps.

Proximity: 10

Strikes at the heart of the GOP Zone.

Outlaw: 10

Permit? What permit?

Overall Rating = 10 (Red Hot!!)

If you heard Michael Medved interview a representative from the A31 Coalition today you might find this of interest. The hardcore anarchists that destroyed Seattle during the 1999 WTO riots have big plans for New York City and the RNC next week. At a time when NYPD will need to be at their highest security alert, Leftists anarchists will deliver them a riot. Why wouldn't terrorists seize the opportunity... foreign or domestic?

And they're not the only ones. Read the entire list.

And throwing a riot accomplishes what exactly...? Do these communists really believe that voters will turn to Kerry after seeing them trash NY?

A radical affront to democracy calls for a radical response

From the authorities. Maybe a Napoleonic response .. a whiff of grapeshot .. aimed their way, "Pour encourager les autres".

These people are beyond party and Kerry. Some of them (A31 Coalition) are the same caliber as the Neo-Communist, Euro-radicals, of Spain who would use the opportunity of mass murder to further their ideological objectives and ambitions.

They will try to make it bloody if it serves their ends.

As tempting as it sounds, it is a self-fulfilling prophecy in their eyes. That is exactly what they are hoping for. Even a measured but firm response will be made to look ruthless on the part of authorities. In Seattle, the so-called 'peaceful' group was shadowed by their 'beserker' thugs on parallel streets looting, vandalizing and burning, in order to obscure the limits of even the peaceful groups ultimately absorbing everyone in the mayhem.

They will be playing to a world audience (including Osama, Zarqawi, and the rest of our Islamacists enemies) intending to send a distorted message about the state of unrest with the Bush Administration. We've seen it played out before our eyes from Spain, to Venezuala, to ... Najaf. And the US mainstream press will be more than willing to oblige; accomplices in another violent lie.

"These people are beyond party and Kerry."

The republicans will rightly place blame for any violence right on the doorstep of the democrat party - "These are the types of people who want my opponent elected."

Riots will not set well with undecided voters.

You're right but I was fantasizing ! I hope the measured response will be enough to guarantee everyone's safety. Nevertheless the violent elements will keep pushing and pushing, at this venue and others down the road, eventually they will have to be confronted. Neither am I confining myself to the obvious culprits - the parallels to the escalating Islamist attacks during the 90s resulting in 9/11 but also consider environmental extremists, the animal rights fanatics and other "local" wackos.

How about this? A few days before the convention is scheduled to open just announce that it's been canceled and the delegates will vote via a conference call between the heads of the various state GOP parties, or they can write their state's votes on a postcard and drop it in the mail. Talk about "what if you gave a war and nobody came"! Sure there would be a LOT of money lost and lots of lawsuits, but I'll betcha in the end it would cost less than what it's going to cost to handle the promised chaos. Just a thought.

I hear you. But, I think it would be worse. Recall Denver after the Broncos won the Superbowl. What if you gave a victory celebration with 30,000 lawless, valueless, misfits? Their intent will be the same either way.

What we need to do is put them in a glass jar (figuratively) labelled Democrat Party: What's Left and train a thousand video cameras on the event for the world to see; and show the audio and video to everyone. Follow that up with the mantra:

Vote Right! What's Left is Wrong.

Is your FR name taken from an episode of the original Star Trek?

Check this out... (Related Thread)

A number of extremists with ties to the 1970s radical Weather Underground have recently been released from prison and are in New York preparing to wreak havoc during the Republican National Convention, The Post has learned.

A top-level source with extensive knowledge of police plans wouldn't disclose the names of the aging rabble-rousers but said a handful of them are already here and will play a behind-the-scenes role in attempting to disrupt the GOP gala.

RADICALS PLOT BAD WEATHER
