Sounds like you need to follow some of the "computer maintenance" threads on FR. Try key word such as "virus", "spyware", and, well you can think of some others, I'm sure. Download the defensive programs you need from download.com.

I've brought my computer back from the dead several times, much to my surprise doing this. Good luck!
