I cannot accept the sanity of a diet that says that pork rinds are good for you.
I tried Atkins and I tried traditional (exercise and rabbit food). The results from traditional are better. Atkins is just too unrealistic a diet to keep to for very long.
It's the divorced, single man's diet. No cooking, dishes, cleanup, or worry about what to fix. They are all as skinny as a rail. They eat nothing but carbs and nicotine.
Two years plus. Easiest "diet" I've ever tried.
Guess it depends on the individual(s)...we've been on Atkins for 7 months now and are lean and lovin' it! Having steak, pork chops, fish, lobster, shrimp is such a challenge and all those big salads not to mention the Atkins milk shakes, ice cream and of course the whip cream and cream cheese.....such a challenge!....:)
4 years & 20 lb. for me. It'll stop working for me any day now... :-)
Compared to what folks would normally snack on, pork rinds are a better choice.

How is it unrealistic? I've found that most people who can't do Atkins have failed to do any research and have poor imaginations when it comes to cooking. Sure, if you are a meat and potatoes kind of person, dropping the potato is a pain. finding something to replace it on the plate won't give you exactly what your looking for. However, Cauliflower tastes pretty good and helps fill you up. People get this weird idea that Atkins is all about Meat, eggs, cheese and nothing else. That's B.S. You could potentially eat a Vegan diet and still keep your carbs low.
I wouldn't be pontificating the virtues of the diet if it didn't do wonders for my wife and I. Both of us lost roughly 50lbs (each) on it. The diet is realistic, if you have a little self control around french fries, potato chips, candy, bread, and rice. (Those are the things that strained me the most.)
Don't be afraid to try new things, some of the best meals I've eaten in the last year have been things my wife and I made from recipes on the Atkins site that I probably wouldn't have touched otherwise. (Who knew Zucchini and blue cheese can come together in a soup to taste that good?)
I would have to guess the greatest success of Atkins with me was my appetite, it dropped down incredibly. For those that think it's just eggs, meat, and cheese, explore a little and don't accept this stuff you hear about it being high protein only - it can be if that's what you want, but it doesn't have to be at all.
