By giving Kerry these sound bites, the President has helped marginalize the Swift Boat Vets.
What Bush should have said was "I am calling for an end to all unfair advertising and ask that my opponent do likewise" and shut up.
Your point is arguable. Repeating it doesnt make it less so.
The MSM twisted what he said. If they can twist his words, it doesnt matter what he says, the MSM will try to make Kerry the winner on this.
Remember - BUSH NEVER RAISED THE ISSUE IN THE FIRST PLACE.
Their campaign has NEVER gone there, and WONT. Bush is focussed on today's issues, not 35 year old bio points about Kerry.
So Bush's position hasn't changed at all, really. Maybe it will make it go away, maybe not. What give the Swift charges staying power is their truth - they rise or fall on that.
Bush did not attack the Vets!! Note: He said Kerry OUGHT
TO be proud of his record. Of course, everybody knows Kerry can't be proud of his record. Bush is therefore bringing attention to that. Bush is not only a good, decent man, but
a formidable opponent in politics. Kerry is just beginning to realize that. Texans know how many time the Democrats called him "stupid" in the Governor's race and predicted that Anne (Big hair, big mouth) Richards would destroy him. Guess who not only won the election, but won re-election by the greatest margin in Texas history.
I am a big fan of "W". His political career is something that will hold political historians in awe for years to come. Don't get discouraged.....just WATCH HIM GO!!!
