Well, point out to your kids that a classic Star Trek communicator didn't have to be recharged daily,

On what assumption do you base that statement?

If it's the fact that you never saw them being recharged, remember that we never saw the crew use the loo either.

And if they manage to get rid of that need I wouldn't like it. When would I read?

I'm basing that assumption on the fact that several episodes last more than the few days that a cell phone battery would last and their communicators still worked.

I saw an interview with Counselor Troi once. On the Star Trek set she pointed to a diagram of the Enterprise in the "Engineering Room." There was a tiny restroom symbol on the diagram, proof that the Enterprise had at least one toilet.

With over a thousand people aboard I shudder to think of the line to the use the Ladies Room.

I just finished watching 2001:, and there is a scene when Dr. Heywood Floyd is reading the instructions for the zero-gravity bathroom. My wife says, "What does it do, suck the poop out of your butt?"

Yes, I love that woman.
