It's okay when the ravages of our little ethical disputes are sorted out in some sterile petri dish.

Sorry to hear about your former homeland. I am not an interventionist, nor an isolationist. Those little ethical disputes affect all of us - my neighbors (our neigborhood is 90% military) are the ones being deployed and TDY to those "petri dishes". Some were stationed in Germany, and our departure is not "the right to dictate what should be the optimal ethnic mix of their societies". On one hand it seems you complain about us being there, and then about the results of us leaving.

If it wasn't for a disability I would have served in VN. I know you can't prove a what if.

And if conquer we must
When the cause it is just....

I'm talking about atmospherics here, we can't help, but wield enormous power. Theoretically, the military is only an instrument of the civilian leadership. But, that leadership in great crisis. And doing a 180 every four years is very destabilizing to a world every day more intricately interconnected. We trivilize this by injecting paltry and insignificant internal issues into the global dialog. And that even more reduces our ability to intervene when it's really important.
