.............To their credit, a few journalists are now seeing the scales fall from their eyes. The Washington Post's David Broder, dean of the Beltway press corps, now admits that "it is virtually impossible to control the flow of money from the private sector into the political world. . . . The best one can hope is that new rules do not produce more unintended negative consequences than benefits. McCain-Feingold is flunking that test."
Sen. George Allen, who once occupied Thomas Jefferson's seat in the Virginia Legislature, says that the only way to honor the First Amendment's protections of political speech is to let everyone contribute whatever he wants but require immediate disclosure on the Internet. The alternative, as we see today, is to let independent groups refight the Vietnam War, diverting attention and accountability from the candidates and their programs. The major losers in this latest round of unfriendly 527 fire are the voters, many of whom are too young to fully appreciate Vietnam and must wonder what any of this has to do with them

The rats spend $67 Million against Bush and nobody cares but a couple Pubbies spend $200,000 and all hell breaks loose !

When this bill got passed, I was as upset as if the 2nd Amendment was repealed. NOBODY can say what you can say or do about politics! That is the MAIN reason we have the 1st Amendment! All this crap about having Jesus in a jar of urine is just a smokescreen. Does anybody in their right mind think our forefathers fought and died so Larry Flint could show his filth? It was, and has always been about political speech without retrobution. I want to see what happens when they try to cut off comercials 30 days before the elections. If I had the money, I would run one myself, just to get the lawsuits going. NO WAY this law will stand.
You can blame McCain-Feingold for many things
But the refighting of Vietnam is Kerry's fault
What a madhouse.
Yep. Its Republicans' fault for disturbing the unwritten understanding that ALL opponents of liberals must shut up when the Left wants them to.
Typical liberal solipsism.
I thought our Glorious Peoples' Supreme Court already decided the CFR provisions were Constitutional? Or did they only rule on parts of it?
It often tells us more about your intellect than that of your target.
If I'm not mistaken, they ruled on parts of it, but I'm hoping, after this, the congress will do something to rectify the situation.
It does point out just how pitifull we have become though, to have this law last this long. Fits in with marrying sodomites and pulling babies heads off. Nothing is out of the realm of possibilities.
Thanks. Can't keep up with all this stuff anymore.
