Kay Hutchinson now is being terrific. While decrying 527s all around she made several excellent points:

These Swift Vets have free speech rights and her understanding is they have raised money from small donors across the country (true).

She knows Merrie Speath and has never heard Merrie was involved, as Wolf alleged, in the 2000 McCain attack ads.

Kay pointed out that when a group decides they need funding it is natural to go to those you think might be sympathetic and willing to help. That is not the same as the Bush campaign engineering the group's activities. Not at all.

(Donna Brazille just said Kerry has denounced the liberal 527s and that shows how tough he is. Not so fast, Donna. He denounced them before he embraced them. As of Friday Debra Deshong with the Kerry Kamp--right from one of is offices--said they had no problems with Moveon.org. Debra lied that Moveone was completely independent and had a right to free speech, unlike, said Debra, the Swift Vets who are lying and are merely a front for the Bush Campaign. So you see, Donna, Kerry was against Moveon but now he is for it).

Before the Donna statement, Kay managed to work in that we should be talking about the issues, and then got in how Harold Ickes is with the DNC AND is a major donor to 527s.

She said Bush's guard service was completely acceptable and was in fact a service to our country. She said he's been attacked unmercifully and unfairly about it, but has gone about his business and is addressing the issues.

Another excellent outing by our side and Wolf's plaintive tone in framing the questions to the Republican guests says it all.
