They are actually doing it for several reasons: 1) The net benefits to our economy of the illegal immigration from Mexico have been very positive (so they push to make it easier for Mexicans to come and go freely), 2) Small business owners in numerous industries are desperate for more minimum-wage level workers and they have large influence in the GOP (much moreso than the Hispanic lobbies do), and 3) the Hispanic population as a percentage of the US is growing, whether you like it or not. Texas hasn't been as conservative and GOP as it is now in over a century. And Hispanics have never been a larger percentage of Texas (32%, just like California) since we were a part of Mexico. How do you reconcile this?

As far as your legal/illegal thing goes, let me put it this way. If a government somewhere or at some level in the US decides that jaywalking in a certain area will be illegal, then I agree, that government has a right to prosecute jaywalkers. But if the federal government decides to pass a law that not only will jaywalking be illegal nation-wide, but that they are creating a massive Department of War on Jaywalkers that will employ thousands of federal workers to hunt down, arrest, prosecute, gun down (if "necessary"), imprison, ajudicate, and/or deport all jaywalkers, then I would absolutely oppose such a ridiculously stupid law. Wouldn't you?

(And, fwiw, I would oppose that Department of War on Jaywalkers idea because I believe it would be stupid, unnecessary, wasteful, totalitarian, counter-productive, and most importantly, harmful to the health of our nation. I'm one person that would surely like to have someone as educated on this issue as you seem to be describe all the net benefits illegal immigration has had on our economy. You see, it's hard to see any benefit in watching billions of our tax $ go to these folks, many of whom could care less about this country and our children's future. They can't (and won't) speak English, have no real skills and if not for welfare style services couldn't even function in this society.....and this is supposed to be beneficial?

As far as small business owners seeking to hire illegals, I must be wrong by thinking that they might want to be EVADING a whole lot of payroll taxes by letting go of Americans and replacing them with illegals when it's obvious nothing could be further from the truth. Also, something I'm sure they never thought of was just paying these illegals minimal wages and letting the taxpayers get socked for their medical, food, education, etc. expenses.......it probably never crossed their collective minds. I'm also sure any day now we'll see builders cut prices on houses across the board because it should be obvious they'll want to pass on to consumers all the extra $ they now save in payroll, taxes, medical, etc. by now using illegals........yep, any day now those prices should come down.

It's maybe my own myopia on the subject but I can't seem to find any silver lining in reading stories about honest Americans whose lives have been changed forever because lax immigration has allowed all sorts of miscreants to enter this country to rob, rape, murder, etc. a loved one thereby causing massive amounts of agony for many families. Is His-pandering for votes really worth the price many of these folks have paid by being violated in some or fashion by these invaders?.......(I know you're giving it a lot of thought, but the answer is NO!)

The point is, this is a very complex, convoluted issue with many elements that need to be exposed to the public at large . Heck, I didn't even bring up Bush's idiotic plan to have some illegals receive Social Security benefits, even after they've gone back to Mexico........if more people knew of that nonsense, he'd be toast before you could say matricula card. You need to step back and take good look at what's really going on here, becasue the reality of the situation is far more destructive than certain romantic notions of the "net benefits of illegal immigration".

How so [will my ideas lead to totalitarianism]?

By advocating that we ignore the mass migrations from the south, you are helping to set the conditions for our own downfall. By fronting for the convenience wing of the Republican party, which for just this year happens to have a policy of encouraging cultural "diversity" through immigration, and overlooking illegal immigration with amnesties in hopes of not offending the recalcitrant left, you are part of the problem rather than giving us solutions. How does illegal and exaggerated legal immigration quotas hurt us, especially from Hispanic, Islamic, and other third-world countries? It's changing our nation one value, one idea, one ethic at a time. In doing so, we:

1. Replace our base culture, the one that established and fought wars to amend the Constitution -- you know, for religious freedom, freedom of speech, the right to keep and bear arms, freedom from slavery, and all of that... with third world illiterates who can't speak English, don't understand the rule of law, and broke the law to get here in the first place. By 2050 or so, Latinos many of whom are direct descendants of illegal aliens, will be the majority in this country at present rates of population growth. How long do you think they will hold on to our Republic when their first acts when they arrived here was to graft themselves into our socialist institutions? These people have never heard of the Magna Carta. They just want a safe, prosperous place to live. America gives them that, but gets much less in return these days than ever before.
2. In the process, our leaders ignore our own laws; our own leaders are free to do whatever is convenient to themselves. This erodes trust and integrity. Members of the original population groups become more and more cynical about government and its ability to represent their interests.
3. As immigration and illegal immigration transform our society, diversity increases and cultural chaos ensues. English is less and less the primary language. The work ethic and moral compatibility in society decliens.
4. Intellectual elites are training these immigrants and their offspring to hate America's core culture, which they claim "opresses" them. Consider Charles Truxillo, hired and supported by our tax dollars, who teaches Latin Americans at the University of New Mexico that Latinos will retake the American southwest for themselves, forming an Azatlan homeland. Consider the ideas of Edward Said, who was an outspoken critic of America's support for Israel, and who is often quoted by anti-European activists in their screed against America. Consider Noam Chomsky, also quoted extensively by pro-Aztlan and anti-Israel activists.
5. Try as you might, you can't ignore the thundering ideas of people like Victor Davis Hanson, who also argues that illegal immigration from Latin America is an invasion. He makes the point that by ignoring illegal immigration we are artificially supporting markets here in this country. Open borders are not free markets. Only the heartless would argue that our labor markets are equivalent to those in the third world. You want cheap lettuce, and I'm saying no blood for lettuce. Let American land owners and factory owners hunt for labor supply at rates that can sustain their workers at wages Americans will pay. Sure your lettuce will cost more, but you can handle it. What you can't handle is the destruction of your country.

Remember, you're in good company. You have Edward Said, Osama bin Laden (who appeals to Latinos to join Jihad because Columbus was supported by the regime that brought Islam's end in Spain in the Inquisition), Truxillo, Chomsky, and Michael Moore -- all on your side. They're all eager to have the USA transformed into an ethnic soup that hardly resembles the nation we founded over 200 years ago.

This isn't jaywalking, its the barbarians at the gates, inside the gates, and taking over the language, culture, and life of the land. Read de Soto and Victor Davis Hanson and then come back to argue with me. I'm done with debating you for now.
