Jews are not particularly warlike or bloodthirsty, so they support Democrats, who managed to start every 20th century war in which the US was involved, except for WWII (Japan started that one; FDR had done everything under the sun to get Germany to attack in a dramatic way, but failed). Oh, wait. That doesn't explain it.

But seriously, I suppose it has to do with FDR. Even though FDR turned away the "St Louis", didn't do anything about the Holocaust (not even publicizing it), and during WWII told some visiting leaders of the Jewish faith and Catholic faith that the US is a Protestant country, and that Jews, Catholics, and others are here "by sufferance", FDR was the one who wanted to fight Hitler, appointed Jewish people to some high positions, got Prohibition removed, and pushed civil rights (the first Democrat president ever to do so).

Lotsa Jews are professionals (medicine, law, publishing) who don't like having the gubmint on their backs about the way they do their jobs. Unlike all of us, who love government interference in our work, right to work, right to live, and management of our personal property (joke).

There's an old saying, that if two Jews in the same room are asked their opinion about any one issue, they will come up with at least three opinions. There are plenty of Jews who are opposed to the existence of Israel as it is currently constituted. Perhaps they've not been in situations where they were subjected to the persecution (and if organized genocide campaigns against Israeli Jews isn't persecution, what is?) commonplace throughout the world where Jews are concerned. Living the US would certainly do that, since life here is good. As Sam Kinison used to say, people in other countries would kick our asses to be homeless in America.
