Some Veterans Still Bitter at Talk of Crimes
The Washington Post ^

By Josh White and Brian Faler Washington Post Staff Writers Saturday, August 21, 2004; Page A01

William Ferris was confined to a bed in a military hospital, his severed sciatic nerve reminding him of the attack on his Navy Swift boat in a Vietnamese river. A shot from a recoilless rifle had pierced the boat's pilothouse and then Ferris's body, leaving him in constant agony.

But it was what appeared on Ferris's television that really pained him. John F. Kerry, a decorated fellow Swift boat driver, was testifying before Congress about atrocities in Vietnam, throwing his medals away, speaking at antiwar rallies. Ferris, who was trying to rehabilitate himself back to active duty, felt betrayed.

This is intriguing. I have been politically aware since about 82, and I cannot remember a campaign going in the toilet like this one. Without the partisan media, it would be over already.

I won't register for ANY paper so I didn't get to read the article. Nonetheless, let me say that I hope Kerry is reaping what he has sown. He is a despicable liar who besmirched the service of thousands of other veterans so that he could launch his own political career. Like his role model, Bubba Clinbton, he believes that life is all about him.

His betrayal, deception, manipulations and fabrications of truth about Vietnam veterans not only extended the war and made him and Hanoi Jane heroes of the North Vietnamese, it led to the torture and deaths of American POWs and probably led to untold additional suicides by veterans returning home to a hostile society after being sent to fight in an "unpopular war". We weren't welcome anywhere when we came home. We were made to feel dirty and ashamed for our service. We weren't treated as second class citizens, we were treated like criminals. This is Kerry's legacy.

If there is any justice in the world, on November 2 (if not before), John "Winter Soldier" F'n Kerry will have his head handed to him by the voters, angered by his duplicity and his naked greed for power and politics.

They still branded O'Neill as a long time Republican. He voted for Gore and hasn't voted for the GOP candidate since 1988. He has donated more money to RAT campaigns.

I view the article as a signal to all the other "big media" outlets that there is "blood in the water" and it's OK to report the story now....

At the behest of the Nixon White House in 1971, O'Neill debated Kerry on television about the war.

I don't think that this sentence holds much water. I believe that O'Neill had already debated Kerry (on the Cavett show?) when he was noticed by Nixon and he invited O'Neill to the White House to encourage him to continue. I don't know if he was given anything like financial support or the like.

I recently saw a video of O'Neill with Nixon and I seem to remember Nixon praising him for his performance in debating Kerry.

Wow indeed. The WP (and NYT, and LAT, and lesser birdcage
liners in the foodchain below them) do not primarily
report news.

They send messages on behalf of whomever controls the
liberal highground, which is to say, the Clintons.

If the Clintons have permitted this story to run, then
they've signalled that the lamestream media may now
permit the Kerry boat to sink.

The question is, are the Clintons angling toward
replacing Kerry with Hillary, or do they just want to
assure a Dem loss this year?

(If a Dem other than Hill wins in 2004, not only does
that screw up Hill's POTUS calendar, it also causes
the Clintons to lose control of the DNC. Can't have that.)

The paper has it backward and you are correct. Nixon recognized O'Neill only after the Cavett debate.

I totally agree with you...I have felt all along that there would be some nasty last minute skeletons that would come along and run Cmdr Kerry's PCF aground...hey, notice no hue and cry from the Clintons over the Swift Boaters.....

I vividly remember John Kerry when he was in charge of the Vietnam Veterans Against the War. It occured to me then that this was nothing more than someone trying to build a political career on the backs of his fellow veterans. Sure enough, a few years later he was a Senator. To this day I am convinced that many of the members of the VVAW were either not veterans of Vietnam, or not even veterans of military service. I recall watching some of them in a protest march and many of them were wearing fatigues that were clearly bought in a surplus store. It's easy to tell if you have worn the real thing.
The overwhelming majority of those of us who served over there didn't particularly want anything from anyone and were simply satisfied to go back to our normal lives. Watching Kerry and his types on TV was irritating but we were just too worn out and busy to do or say anything against him. In hindsight, I suppose our silence may cost us a much more than we ever could have imagined. A lot of us veterans of Vietnam are in our 50's and on the tail end of careers. We are finally getting back together and talking about our experiences with each other. Most of us are not traumatized, angry, or resentful and all we want to do is remember, and be with some of the most important people in our lives. Sadly, Kerry soils it with his abuse of his veterans status and his attempt to usurp what is a very honorable and unwritten code, for his own gain. I find him more despicable than Clinton, and that's pretty despicable. For me it's why the Free Republic has become like an oasis in the desert.

You guys just say it all. Thank you both. I am on my way to WalMart to try and find Unfit for Command, I am sending Christmas Presents early this year. (All of my Liberal Family members are getting their stocking stuffer this month)

John Kerry = Jane Fonda = Michael Moore

There is no excuse for undercutting our troops.

When will the Swift Vets show a replay of Kerry throwing the medals he won over the Whitehouse fence?

Now that the new Swiftvet ad is coming out, a new round of Swiftvets will be out there on the talk show circuit. The anti-medal group can now take a rest and the anti-Kerry post vietnam vets can now grab attention. Exposure to these guys may actually be the most devastating to Kerry's campaign.

You may be right. They have had to be dragged to the party kicking and screaming. When Kerry responded, they had no choice.

Kerry will be haunted by this. There will be arguments about whether he deserved his medals. Then we will finally get to the heart of the matter. This man turned on his comrades and his country. This man is honored in the commie museum for helping them win. This man has voted against most of the weapons systems that allowed us to nail Hussein. This man voted against force after Kuwait was invaded. This man was for a nuclear freeze. So the question is --- DemocRATic Party, you expect this man to be the commander in chief? Are you out of your freaking mind?
