You have to understand it from the Inside the Beltway politico view. NYTimes and Wash Post are their Pravdas. Since both declared the book is a "lie" that's all they need to know.

They are out of touch.


And there's something they don't want to talk about. They can battle on the medals. They can battle on the "official (written by Kerry) reports. But they can't battle on one:

John Kerry's Cambodia claims can't be salvaged. In a way this big hulaballoo might be inspired to take away attention to Kerry's worst lies.

The adds are doing too much damage to Kerry. If they try to change the focus and wait it out two weeks, the swifties can no longer air their ads by law.

Smart but stupid because the ad will be shown and it looks like Kerry is a crybaby, not a warrior.

Kerry's being in Cambodia was seared--seared--in his memory.
It seems Kerry's not being in Cambodia will yet have to be seared into his memory, through his coming election humiliation.
