If he is maintaining that the book is libelous, why doesn't he file a complaint, in a court? He's got plenty of money, he could afford to do that. He certainly would not have a hard time proving malice, it's obvious those guys hate him and are trying to hurt him, so all he needs to prove is that their charges are untrue.
Why, instead of seeking relief via the proper channels, is he trying to be a fascist and intimidate people? And does he really think this is going to play in Peoria? This is the United States of America, land of the FREE, where even little children in the shoolyards remind each other regularly "this is a free country, I can say what I like". This whole attempt at stifling these men via intimidation is the worst possible response he could make. He should have just shrugged it all off, said: my record speaks for itself and I consider their attack on me unworthy of a response. Instead he's trying to throw his weight around like some autocrat. This could cost him the election. Who the heck ever tried anything like this?
Because he'd have to produce all of his military records in discovery, and that's the last thing he wants to do.
Do you think his band of brothers (trial lawyers) got together to screw over the POWs and Vets once again?
The American public won't like THAT!
All of this just convinces me even more that French-looking Kerry is indeed "Unfit to Command".
