"Trying to counter the success of Michael Moore, Karl Rove's men in Hollywood are rushing to release a pro-Bush epic, "The Big Picture." But are they violating federal campaign law?"
Aug. 20, 2004 | The next salvo in the cinematic campaign war of 2004 is "The Big Picture," a documentary film attacking John Kerry sponsored by David Bossie's Citizens United, the right-wing group that unsuccessfully sued to stop national advertising of Michael Moore's "Fahrenheit 9/11." But Bossie's latest project could create legal problems for him and his organization -- in part because Lionel Chetwynd, the award-winning director, is working not only on the documentary but also on two shorter films to be screened at the Republican National Convention.
Exactly how "The Big Picture" was financed, and how much it will cost, remain mysterious. A tantalizing clue, however, showed up in a July 19 post on the right-wing Free Republic Web site, where someone nicknamed Smogger sought guidance from fellow Freepers about a political donation:
"Who is Dave Bossie and Citizens United?" asked Smogger. "I just gave them $50 that they claim they are going to use to create a movie to praise the efforts of George Bush and to counter Farenheit 911 [sic]. They said they were trying to raise $500,000 in 30 days for this effort. I assume they got my number from the RNC.
"Anyone else receive this phone solicitation? It's so hard to keep track with GWB and RNC calling every other day. I tried to access the Citizens United website but it appears down. I hope I did the right thing."

Salon is still in business?
Bossie can't be that careless to make a mistake like that, can he?
Geeze, now I have to devote the remaining four hours of every day to FReeping. I don't know what's going on here.
Oooooooh, and can't you feel the anger seething
from the poison pen of the radical leftist, America-
hating Joe Conason? LOL!
High Five, Smogger!
The director can't do a job for anyone else if he does anything for the RNC? So, Steven Spielberg can never make another political movie again, because he directed that Kerry bio for the Rat convention?
It's been months and months and I STILL don't understand CFR...
Apparently no one does. And not only is it unconstitutional, but looks like it's going to be impossible to enforce.
"Triumph of the W.?"
How ironic... trying to tar a pro-Bush movie as Naziesque, when the Dems own Lumpy Reifenstahl got so much praise....
Dang! That's why I tell everyone to remain anonymous. I don't want to end up branded a "right-wing Republican operative" or even worse a "right-wing Republican businessman" ;-) and hounded with all my past statements like they did Jerome Corsi.
Is this the new strategy of the left? To impugn us all using our posts from "right wing" Freerepublic? ;-)
Maybe we shouldn't discuss our political contributions on FR? What do you think Jim. I would have thought it laughable until the AP article on Jerome Corsi and now this piece on Salon (not that anyone reads that crap)
..er.. hang on.. that's the Karl Rove hotline ringing.
I don't know. Hold on. I'll call Dubya and ask.
BTW: Jim, I am pretty sure the author of this piece is Treblu2 since he just registered today and said pretty much the same thing he said in his hit piece.
"Where is John F. Kerry? Where is he? I have a little something for him."
"My name is John Kerry and I'm reporting for doody!"
This is their evidence for some big conspiracy? Your post on the freeper board? Gimme a break!
