I think Matthews had a clear agenda. He wanted to get his guests to say something false (while he was badgering Malkin, he, himself, said that nobody was making the claim he asked her about). And I think the reason he wanted to do so is that he was purposely trying to create an embarassing sound-bite for the Kerry campaign. Matthews is utter garbage and I appologize to everyone on Free Republic for ever defending him or his show.

I encourage everyone to give assertive but polite feedback to the hardball email address that Michelle put on her website. His behavior was very abusive and he needs to be called on it. Even MSNBC should have higher standards.

The feedback e-mail for Hardball is hardball@msnbc.com

"I think the reason he wanted to do so is that he was purposely trying to create an embarrassing sound-bite for the Kerry campaign."

Bingo. I saw the whole interview and that was my take, too. Sure, the people who saw the interview would be appalled, but he can now quote Malkin out of context, because during the cross talk she said "yes"" when one of the many questions was, "Are you saying Kerry shot himself?"

I'm not sure why Matthews even bothered. Why couldn't he simply create his own lie, and repeat it until people believed it? That's his usual M.O.
