I read this pretty carefully. It describes Kerry as a very competent young officer who was well regarded by superiors and subordinates.

If it has anything critical in it, it suggests that he was young, ambitious and a little boorish.

Then you didn't read the same article I read. I read an article that describes lie after lie in Kerry's bio, "Tour of Duty."

Well except for the part that stated that he would never support Kerry due to his "boorish" aid and comfort to the enemy. But other than that, yes it was a glowing endorsement.
