I have watched a few of the basketball games and I figured the whistling was the European way of saying that the refs made a bad call, or missed a call.

I have had the TV tuned to the Olympic all day every day. So far, I have been pleased with the way the crowds have reacted to the USA athletes. I was afraid they would face open hostility but that has not been the case. No doubt some in the crowd have an anti-US bias and they may make it known to Americans in the crowd, but I see plenty of American flags so things can't be too bad.

Being a citizen of the worlds only superpower requires a stiff upper lip and thick skin. Get used to it. It goes with the territory.

Unfortunately, Greece has been a very anti-American country for a very long time (anti-Semitic, too).

I prefer the traditional olympic events myself. They're sports I seldom watch other than in the olympics.

Mens gymnastics were pretty spectacular last night. A bad fall by Paul Hamm (?) took them out of the running for a medal but 3 spectacular preformances later they too the gold.

The Europeans use a whistle like we use a boo. It's a very distinctive whistle, and they generaly use two fingers at the sides of their mouths to do it.

It sounds like a long drawn out "phweeeeeee.....".

I could never learn to do it.

Whistling is common too, it's not like they're picking on the US. Actually, I think Europeans respect US athletes, since they tend to admire the stronger athletes in any sport.

This is bs. The Greeks have never like the US - moreso after the Bosnia conflict as their sympathy lay with the Serbian Christians. Clinton's 1999 trip there was cut short because of the protests including 2000 people holding a mock trial of Clinton.

I heard a report on the morning of the 16th and posted regarding it, that the Americans were surprised by the warm reception they were getting.

If the "bassetbawl" team was being booed it was by me for fielding a collection of "thug-nasty" prima donnas with no concept of team play.

And for that matter Iverson has more tattoos than there are people in the stands.

Speaking of the Iraqis, I see that their soccer team, the one that would not be present at the Olympics this year if not for G.W. Bush, are calling for the presidents head, and one of those punks on the team can't wait to get home to Fallujah or whatever toilet he crawled out of, and kill him some of them there American soldiers. Ingrates. And damn any American athlete that scrambles to get their picture taken with with one of those ungrateful, gutless little b**ches, as if everybody's cool with each other. It's always that "we don't hold anything against the American people, it's Bush we hate" crap. If the left, who the soccer team probably favors, had their way, those greasy b**tards wouldn't even be in Greece right now, they would be at home nursing the whip welts on their backs.

Obvious bias does not necessarily make the account untrue.

I just read a piece in The Daily Oklahoman...that said just the EXACT opposite.

In fact....many of the athlete's said they were being treated much better than they were told they would be. And that it was the everyday Greek...that was the most gracious, and friendly.

FRegards,

You're correct. However, I just read an AP story in my local paper (The Lansing State Journal) that is the total opposite.
