WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Thousands of Albanians and others who fled the Balkans for the United States in recent years have emerged as a serious organized crime problem, threatening to displace La Cosa Nostra (LCN) families as kingpins of U.S. crime, top FBI officials said Wednesday.
The Albanian criminal enterprises, operating largely in New York and other Eastern seaboard cities, represent a major challenge to federal agents because of their propensity for violence and brutality, the officials said.

Interpol has had it's eyes (and ears) on the Albanian maffia for years. They (albanian maffia) have a reputation in European countries for their violent methods and for being leaders in the illegal drug trade and human trafficking.
Yes, the Albanian mafia is already legendary in Europe. There are 2 important differences with the US: First, the public's lack of awarereness, hence the importance of articles like this in the the most mainstream of media. Second, the powerful US Albanian lobby. If the clannish mafia - KLA relations in Kosovo are any indication, the FBI should be looking hard into probable ties between the mafia and the aacl & naac lobbies in the US.
