The history on this: Early this year Killington VT started the attempted stampede out of socialistic VT by voting to secede to New Hampshire. Trend seems to be continuing...
Personally I seceded to NH last week! And I'm never leaving if I can help it! It really is the Free State and Freedom never looked so beautiful as it does up close.
You are not allowed to access this sectionHow ironic for a free state.
Which ones?
I'll see you in about 4 years....but I'm already looking at the real estate listings.
Why would any town in Vermont want to secede and join New Hampshire? I thought Howie Dean made everything all right?
I may be seeing you all soon. The problem is, would NH let rif raf like me in? ;)
New Hampshire is importing too many liberals. Do you think freedom-lovers can keep up?
Will entire counties follow?
"Live free or Die". NH is a great place to be..even some of the Massachusetts asses that move here change their ways.
Killington? This is news to me. How about some more info.....
Yep...not allowed access.
Wonder if they will run up the Flag of the Confederacy?
From the web site:
The Free State Project is a plan in which 20,000 or more liberty-oriented people will move to New Hampshire, where they may work within the political system to reduce the size and scope of government. The success of the Free State Project would likely entail reductions in burdensome taxation and regulation, reforms in state and local law, an end to federal mandates, and a restoration of constitutional federalism, demonstrating the benefits of liberty to the rest of the nation and the world.
Anytime I needed to go off-base for business or commerce...anything... I'd head straight up to Nashua, NH. Taxachusetts was awful, New Hampshire was nice. I still remember it fondly.
They let me in 16 years ago. So, I guess they will take pretty much anyone!
Wait until you purchase a house here in New Hampshire and you get your first tax bill. Then talk to me about how "Free" New Hampshire really is. You'll soon discover what many of us already know, as a home owner, we're the ones being taxed to death to pay for such expenses as our inept educational system. There ain't nothing "free" about New Hampshire.
However large the bill is, you can deduct this from your federal income taxes. Obviously this only becomes an issue if one buys an expensive or large property that isn't used as a farm. Farmland is taxed at a relatively low rate...which means I'll be planting alot of Christmas trees on my land. Property taxes are also not based on income...which make them fair and equitable.
Ack, I apologize guys, I sent you to a link that is accessable only to FSP members. Here's a media article on the subject.

As for NH not being free well no place is truly free yet but NH has the lowest overall tax burden in the continental U.S. The nasty property tax is overcome by the lack of sales or income tax. And if enough tax haters move in, then the prop tax can be cut!

I'm awaiting the day when Masschusetts invades both states for their tax revenue.
Vermont actually has some of the highest property taxes in the nation, so Mass wouldn't get much revinue by invading. Mass actually likes it as it is, as many people work in Mass, pay Mass income taxes, but live in NH and don't receive any government services from Mass for their contribution.
BTW: I'm the guy who presented Killington's town manager with the NH flag and the gadsden flag when they voted to secede.
There are several more towns considering secession, and I'm convinced that by Town Meeting day next March, every 'donor town' in Vermont will have a secession article on the ballot. They are figuring out that if some towns leave the state, the rest are going to be stuck picking up their tax tab... it's a massive game of Odd Man Out...
