It seems like it may be taking hold a little bit now. If this stays out there long enough on FOX and talk radio, let's just hope it will get big enough that the alphabets have no choice but than to discuss it.
I have heard some discussion of this on public radio. The party line seems to be:
- Most of these veterans weren't near Kerry's boat when the incidents his medals were based on occurred;
- Most of Kerry's own men, including the one he rescued, back his story up;
- The citations accompanying his medals speak for themselves;
- One of the veterans who signed an affidavit challenging Kerry's version of events withdrew the affidavit claiming he was in error, but then supported what he said in his affidavit;
- The swift boat veterans opposing Kerry are being funded by the same (cue ominous music) wealthy Texan who funded efforts to tarnish John McCain in the 2000 primaries -- which prompted McCain to complain about the ads questioning Kerry's war record;
- And remember it is not against the law to simply lie in political advertising.
My distinct impression is the elite media simply do not believe the swift boat veterans against Kerry; they still believe Kerry is a genuine war hero.
