Honestly, I don't know how Bill Lipinski, John Daley, Mike Madigan or Tom Hynes kept a straight face Tuesday.
Or how the other dozen political bosses in the room did either.
There they were, Democratic committeeman sitting side by side in a Holiday Inn meeting room just south of Midway Airport in the heart of Lipinski territory.
These scions of Chicago political dynasties were engaged in the "serious" business of picking a candidate to replace Lipinski on the November ballot in the 3rd District congressional election.
Little wonder few members of the public showed up. This gathering had nothing to do with them, and everything to do with preserving power as it is used and abused in Chicago.

I may live to see free elections in Iraq, but I won't ever see free elections in Illinois, NJ, LA, PA....
