Homeland Security Undersecretary Asa Hutchinson yesterday told senators that Secret Service agents and other armed federal officials are being used to bolster the Federal Air Marshal Service's efforts to guard airplanes from terrorist attacks.
"We're trying to make sure, through additional resources, that we really increase the number of flights that are covered," Mr. Hutchinson told the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee during a hearing on the September 11 commission report.

Good. If only it had been done after Atta and Co. were detained for 45 minutes the morning on 9/11.
Others here were suggesting this, along with police officers and CCW holders being able to carry guns on planes, only a few days after 9/11.

Did they take the extra SS agents from Clinton and Kerry's details? :) Seriously though, having a more reasonable "armed pilots" program. One that doesn't require a week long training course conducted hundreds of miles from the nearest major airport, and that doesn't require the pilots, who after all are being trusted with the lives of their passengers every time they fly, to undergo psychiatric screening. Such a program would have thousands of armed pilots in the cockpits by now, instead of the few hundred that we actually have. Until they do that, they are just blowing smoke up our .. well you know.

yea he's probably pulling border patrol agents from inland sweeps to guard the skies and leave the rest of the country open...I should trust him because?
